First time trying this place. Interior is beautiful, great layout, you don't feel smashed in with other around you. The overall layout and outside seating and bar seating looks good and flows well with people in and out and the servers being able to move without fear of crashing into people or elbow bumping. Just a overall good build
Food ⭐ The potatoes (home fries) came off sweet?? Guessing honestly the type of tater they used. ⭐ The pancakes 🥞 3 medium sized pancakes are great, tho could do without a side of butter on the plate maybe in a side cup. The ham is great not to salty not over cooked, just dang good. ⭐ The bacon 🥓 2 slices, was good not dripping grease, not too crispy, honestly just right. The sausage 2 links with the options of patties, was good, small spice nothing major. ⭐ The eggs 🍳🥚, were great, cooked to order, and they were spot on perfect.
Service 🧑🍳 The service was ok, but I shouldn't of seen the bottom of my coffee cup twice, and the checking on guest left some to be desired, it wasn't busy and mostly from what I could see being where we sat the staff seemed to gather up at the bar and linger there talking and such. 🇺🇸 The guy doing the most work was a man doing the cleaning and I'd say he needs a raise, hard working black man, we need more like him. Keep up the good work Sir.
But overall this is a good place and the prices are just about right with everything else right now, do I recommend this place for breakfast and lunch.. absolutely I do. Keep this...
Read moreWe went here for breakfast this morning. I just think maybe the restaurant could review cooking for different styles of eggs. I ordered over-medium eggs and my husband, over-easy.
When his eggs came the whites were not cooked through, and there was raw egg running all over his plate. I almost couldn't eat my food looking at it and had him cover it with his toast. I know some people do eat raw egg, but not us.
He mentioned to me that he overheard the next table ordering their eggs and one asked for over medium and added "I mean I do not them runny," to which the waitress responded they WILL be runny though, leading me to believe they do not understand how to cook eggs and this is not a one-time issue.
The only egg where the whites should not be cooked through is poached style eggs, which is exactly what my husband's over-easy eggs looked like on his plate. I used to cook in a restaurant and they have very strict parameters for each style of egg - a great practice.
Maybe it would be good for management to review styles of eggs and what they should be and then re-educate the cooks and waitresses as well. Honestly, the majority of people do not want raw egg running throughout their plate.
Also the sausage patty was the worst I have ever had, it was dry and had a crumbly texture almost like there was corn bread mixed into it.
The service though was great and the rest of the...
Read moreEdit: My first review was made in the middle of July. Since then I have been to Tex and Shirley's 3 more times. Sadly I had to reduce my review from 4 stars to 1. While I still think they have good service and friendly staff, 3 out of the 4 times that I have been there, the food has tore my stomach up. The last time was so bad, I had to go home. // Original review from July, 2022 - As far as I am concerned, "Tex & Shirley’s" was a very fond memory of growing up in Greensboro. It was one of the last places that I remember my family eating together. We knew the original owners, Slater “Tex” Moor and his wife, and ate their very regularly. To me, when they closed the original location at 708 Pembroke Road, on December 26, 2017, it's not "Tex & Shirley’s" anymore. I do like the new location. It's a good place to eat, as it's own thing. The food is good and the staff is friendly, but the environment is completely different and the menus aren't even similar to the original, with all of my favorite meals gone. To me those are what made it "Tex...
