Very very very disturbing experience. I been going to Jake’s since I moved to North Carolina from Mississippi, mind you I don’t even stay in Greensboro I drive 30+ minutes just to come to this location and spend my Hard earned money (I’m a nurse!) so you guys know when we decide to unwind we do not care for mess !!! And I make very decent money in my profession so I recognize the struggle of those working and serving at bars who make less than most (no shade). But disclaimer I go to this place for the pool tables and outside area definitely not for the atmosphere cause every time i go the service is definitely not up to par for the way they expect to jump down your throat for “NOT TIPPING”. For one it’s 2025 if you’re going to have that aura then automatically get your gratuity off the top so you don’t have to worry and keep tabs on who you all feel like is not tipping ! But the way the Owner (a Caucasian male with long hair) came outside and tried to handle me after I’m explaining to him that it was clearly a misunderstanding BECAUSE I TIPPED IN CASH ! I went on Cinco Dmayo (May 5th) with some of my former coworkers and each of us spent well over 80-100$ and tipped adequately! I was told that it was their RULE that you had to tip in order to be granted access and service at their establishment!! Cool ! I’m not a less fortunate individual to where I couldn’t do so ! And I wasn’t even causing a fuss about it I was more so OFFENDED that they would even accuse me of not tipping the whole day I was there definitely a insult ! He was very nasty ! I failed to get his name when I was there because he had escalated the situation to the point I didn’t even feel welcomed at the establishment. So of course I took my money elsewhere and made the next bartender at the spot I went to afterwards night a good one :). Running off a consistent paying customer over a misunderstanding I was trying to handle appropriately but being that 1. I am a visibly GAY BLACK Male. The guy that was sent outside to discuss the matters with me (description of individual listed above) automatically decided he was going to treat me Less than from his whole demeanor when he approached me as I was sitting outside. He told the guy at the door (black male with dreads) if I wanted to enter I could but if I said something smart I could leave ! For one ! I was never hostile ! Secondly I make tooooo much money to be arguing with a person who’s basically mad at me for not spending more of MY money at this establishment EVEN THOUGH I KNOW I TIPPED while I was there , he brought out two tickets one showing where I closed out on a tab of 97$ and another I closed out a tab of 7$ both towards the end of my night and I had been at the establishment since maybe 4pm earlier that day and closed out on 2 or 3 other tabs on top of my cash tips which weren’t brought out because why ? I tipped right ??? So no issue there ! So you basically wanted me to tip on every tab I cashed out on ?????? If that’s the case automatically deduct your gratuity as I stated before orrrrr Pay your bartenders more money ! Cause I’m sure neither one of the staff working make enough money PAID BY THE COMPANY to where they have to depended on tips ! So to the guy maybe I will take my money elsewhere to the other “50 cent bars” around Greensboro as he stated to me. But I’m confused cause what do you guys think Jake’s is ???????? Definitely not a up scale or 5 star bar/restaurant please Be humble! With all due respect I MAY or MAY not spend another single red cent here. More than likely I won’t ;). Take my advice and add the gratuity into the tab so you don’t have to run off actual paying and tipping customers, also THOSE ATTITUDES! Are terrible ! Very unwelcoming ! Very...
Read moreAs local bars go, it doesn’t get better than this. I have been coming to Jakes regularly for about five years now. First, the beer list is the best in Greensboro. They have a very large selection that rotates constantly and the prices range from $4.5 to $8 (for drafts). Most draft beers are $5 or $6, which is FAR better than a lot of other bars that attempt to rip you off because a beer has a fancy name. You can order the same beer at Jake’s that another bar sells for $2 or $3 more. Besides the beer, the food is pretty great too. It’s definitely bar food, but it’s good bar food. I and most of my friends usually get the buffalo chicken wrap, because it’s by far the best thing on the menu. Some other awesome things on the menu are the home style chips, the fried pickles, the wontons, and definitely the wings. Be very careful with the hot sauces... I typically eat very spicy food, but you should consider the medium here to be hot and the hot to be extra hot and so on. If it’s spicy, it’s spicier than you think! There’s always a great crowd here too of all ages and never any foolishness. They maintain this atmosphere by making sure to remove the wild people and by keeping a ban list that you cannot get off of or sneak past. They let you keep your car in the lot if you’ve had too much, so it will be safe. They also treat their employees pretty well from what I can tell. Some of those guys have been there since I’ve started going. If you don’t tip, they charge your card a 20% gratuity, which (having waited tables and been denied tips myself) is great for the employees. Trust me, you’ll never feel like the service was sub par unless you’re generally difficult toward waitstaff. These guys work hard and do an...
Read moreI recently moved to North Carolina and my friends told me to try this place out. My first experience wasn’t good because they were short staff and the server messed up everyone’s order. However, the manager came over and explained the issues and addressed the concerns which made me want to give it another try. I completely understand when there is not enough staff but business demand is high. This time I came to celebrate my cousin who just became a flight attendant, our server Lindsy had an attitude with us from the time we arrived. She never introduced herself, I only know her name from my check. She also never acknowledged that we were celebrating something. She turned a celebration into a bad night. Her demeanor was as if she did not want to take care of us. We had lots of drinks but when the tabs were bought out they were all on the wrong persons tab. Rather than letting us explain she ASSUMED we were trying to get the drinks taken off. We were only trying to get them put on the right people tabs. She was rude and than made a comment saying “I haven’t been drinking I know who had what” I only had one drink and didn’t even finish it so I was sober and remember also. Lindsy was rude from beginning to end. Even after I tried to calmly explain to her she still had an attitude and didn’t care. She just said “we took it off but we won’t do it next time” which implies that we would do that again. As if to say we were going to come back and try to get free stuff. We never asked for the drinks to be taken off. Ex. If one person drinks 7 $10 shots and another person take 3 $4 shots and their tabs are mixed up that’s a big difference. We just wanted our...
