I’ve been here several times and keep neglecting to do a review, but this place is hands down one of the best Birria places I’ve been to from both a culinary and customer service standpoint. The owners are some of the friendliest, nicest people you could meet, and have a clear love and passion for their cooking. The vibe of the place is very much so “everyone and anyone is welcome here.”
The food. Oh the food. This is some of the most melt in your mouth birria I’ve had. It’s good in everything, from the burritos to the gooey quesadillas. Their street corn is phenomenal. The other night they had specials, including a crab leg and birria ramen; I did not try it, but the customers eating it appeared to have risen to a new plane of joy from the looks on their faces.
Check out this place soon!
Edit: I would love to address some of the 1 star complaints some people have: 1- wait times. This place is popular. They can have some longer (20-30 min) wait times at peak hours. Plan accordingly. Just because YOU had to drive 45 minutes to this place does not make it their problem. 2- “I’ve been here x amount of times, but this one time…” Yo. You’ve been here a bunch of times, to this local biz, and not left a single 5 star, but this time your tummy felt weird 20 minutes after eating here? Ok, first off, that’s not how food poising works, it can take up to 48 hours for symptoms. Second off, maybe adjust your rating instead of immediately reaching for a 1 star, especially if they’ve done great in the past; says more about you then it does the business when you leave that sort of review. 3- “hour say x, but they were closed when we came.” Fair criticism, but again, it is a local business and stuff comes up when it’s family run. Temper your expectations; but I do understand the frustration, because it genuinely...
Read moreBirrieria 101 I had lunch here on December 19th, 2023. I very much enjoyed the two Birria-style tacos. The beef was tasty and mild, while the taco itself was nicely “grill-top” toasted. When I ordered, I asked the male taking my order what kind of sauce, if any, they routinely put on their birria tacos. He said “green sauce”. I like plenty of sauces and/or salsas, and, not seeing a salsa bar or any bottles of sauces on the tables, I asked do you have any other sauces because I like choices. I usually add sauce to every bite of the taco. I was surprised that he didn’t seem well informed about Birrieria 101’s sauces. I asked him if I could have a sample of each of the three sauces which he eventually fessed up to having available. All were good especially the one he seemed to say was very spicy. It was not too hot, but it was nicely unique in flavor. My tacos were also served with a consommé in which I dipped my tacos before each bite. I’ll definitely return to Birrieria 101 to enjoy the tacos again, but what I wasn’t thrilled with (and next time I will tell them to lighten up on) was the excessive amount of melted mozzarella-like Oaxaca cheese that was ¼ inch thick, covering the entire inside of the tortilla. It was way too much of this somewhat tasteless cheese. Moderation is key. It can ruin a good taco (and a burger) with too much mild tasting cheese. It makes an otherwise good taco a boring taco (likewise tasteless American cheese ruins Hamburgers). Also, use corn tortillas on tacos. Don’t use flour tortillas. Flour tortillas are for burritos and Taco Bell tacos. Next time I will specify...
Read moreI don't post reviews often, but when I do, it's REALLY good. And this restaurant is one of those places. Oh man, where do I start? Birreria 101 is literally perfect in so many ways. First, the atmosphere is very friendly and welcoming. It feels like you're in Mexico. The prices might seem a bit much- 3 birria tacos and some consome for $17.50? But it's WORTH IT, because everything they serve is jumbo size. The portions are huge and well worth the price, and the food is VERY filling. The food is served very fast. As soon as I ordered my food, I went to the bathroom for a couple of minutes and came back to a MASSIVE 14 inch "pizzadilla." How do they do this? How do they serve such large portions that are literally fresh and straight out the kitchen in literally a few minutes?
Anyways, the food. The food is perfect. I've eaten a lot of tacos, and this restaurant has served the best I have EVER eaten. The consome is the bread and butter of most of the dishes. It really makes the food special and truly perfect. I can't personally vouch for anything other than the birria (I love birria), but I'm sure the other meat options are just as amazing. The housemade drinks also seem pricey, but they are HUGE. And delicious. I personally recommend the horchata.
Birrieria 101 is a family owned restaurant, and you can feel that passion in both the service and the food. If you're a tourist, eat here before you leave. And if you're a local, eat here more often. You will...
