RICE Bistro & Sushi — Restaurant in Greenwood Village

We had a 7:30 reservation on Valentine's Day and placed our order at 7:45. By 9:15, we had still not received our food, despite seeing multiple tables being served and leaving. After nearly two hours, we asked to speak to a manager. I have added a photo to show how empty the restaurant was when we were still waiting for our food. When the manager (Coco) arrived at our table, we expressed our concerns about the delay and being the last table served in the restaurant. Her response was that this level of service should be expected on Valentine’s Day and at least we were able to wait at a table instead of standing waiting for takeout. She offered us a 10% discount but the discount didn't cover the food that at this point was still not served at the table. When we reiterated that we had waited patiently and watched numerous tables come and go, she told us, we "don’t understand hospitality." She then turned to my daughter and made an inappropriate comment who was silent through the exchange.

When our waitress eventually brought the check, she was in tears. It was clear she was distressed by the situation as well. It turns out that the check ended up charging us for the food that was not served but we wanted to avoid a further uncomfortable situation and paid for the bill. Food is typically good; sushi is fresh. Service is lacking (Covid). Did a curbside pickup for a roll, sushi and seaweed salad. Took over an hour on a Friday (staffing shortage probably). I had to go in twice to find out what the problem was and had to wait inside to get order.

Update 2023: We placed a pickup order and when we got home there was 1 item missing. Called to let them know and see if I could come back and pick it up. Was given the option to get a credit or they could have someone devliver it. Was still hungry so I opted for delivery which showed up about 20 min later.

I'm impressed.

They have lost their way. I’m surprised by the recent 5 star reviews. This restaurant has been our local go to place for both Sushi and good Asian dishes for years. Unfortunately, no longer. pick up wait time was 1 hour 15 minutes no real process to the order and pick up system that I could tell. Three young nice ladies trying to do the best they could with basically, no process. numerous DoorDash drivers waiting for pick ups significant downward spiral of food quality both in sushi and entrees I have had the same basic problems with pick up and food over the past 6 months with at least 6 tries to see if they’ve improved.
