Well, let me tell ya, Pete's Drive-In in Greer, South Carolina, is like the Daytona 500 of diners, and I'm not kiddin'. If you're not first in line, you're last, because the locals know this place is a winner.
First off, let's talk about the burgers. When you bite into one of Pete's legendary cheeseburgers, it's like crossing the finish line in first place, every time. The meat is juicy, the cheese is melted to perfection, and the buns are toasted just right. It's like the engine of a finely tuned race car – everything working together in harmony for maximum flavor. And don't even get me started on the chili. Man, that chili is like nitrous for your taste buds! Spicy, savory, and just the right amount of kick to make you wanna do a victory lap around the parking lot.
Now, if you're lookin' for sides, you gotta get the onion rings. These bad boys are crispy and golden, just like a championship trophy. They're so good, they'll make you wanna say, "Shake and bake!" And the fries? Oh, the fries are like drafting behind the leader – they might seem simple, but they’re a game-changer. Perfectly seasoned, crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside. Pair 'em with one of Pete's thick, creamy milkshakes, and you’ve got yourself a meal that's worth its weight in NASCAR gold.
The atmosphere at Pete's is as American as a Sunday drive. You got your classic diner feel, with friendly folks behind the counter and an aura that screams small-town charm. It's the kind of place where they know your name and remember your order, making you feel like a hometown hero.
And let’s not forget the prices. At Pete's, you can fill up your tank without emptying your wallet. It’s affordable, and that means more money for gas and maybe a few extra laps around the track.
So, if you’re ever in Greer, South Carolina, and you’ve got a need for speed – or just a need for some dang good food – get yourself over to Pete's Drive-In. It’s a pit stop you won’t regret, and that's a Ricky Bobby guarantee. If you ain't eating at Pete's, then you ain't living. Shake and bake, baby,...
Read moreMy family and I have ordered something almost weekly here for months now, but after yesterday evening I won't visit again.
I went in around 8:00 and decided to use the restroom before I ordered a slice of the delicious lemon cake they serve. As I was just about to come out of the stall I heard the other person in the restroom come out of their stall first. She approached the sink and turned the water on for about 2-3 seconds. I'm unsure if she even used soap (I never heard the pump sound), but regardless, the amount of time they left the water on was no where near long enough to properly wash their hands. When I opened my stall door I then saw it was an employee. Afterwards, I walked past the register, saw her handling plates, and decided right then that I would pass on ordering anything. I never thought of mentioning to anyone there until after I had left.
A few minutes later I called back to inform management. I called, a girl picked up the phone, and I asked to speak to a manager. She proceeded to ask who was calling (who cares, someone just needs to speak to them). I said, "My name is Jennifer, just a customer". A man got on the phone and I explained what I saw. The tone in his voice was immediately defensive and he told me "we wash our hands here". Okay, does he go into the restroom with employees to know that they all do? I simply told him again that she couldn't have had sufficient time to wash them and I just wanted management to know. He just said in apathetic tone, "Okay, I'll address it". I simply hung up, because at that point I could tell my words were falling on deaf ears.
We have eaten there once a week for a while out of convenience (I don't really care too much for the food other than the desserts), but after last night I won't be going back. The only reason I'm leaving two stars is because some of the staff...
Read moreA friend and I decided to give Pete's of Greer another try since our normal diner was closed for the 4th of July Vacation Week. He ordered the double chili cheese burger plate and a soft drink. I saw the Philly Cheesesteak listed at the top of the sandwiches. The food came out in 2-3 minutes. We both thought this was slightly odd. He enjoyed his fries and as much of the burger he could eat when the bread completely crumbled allowing the contents to fall everywhere -sort of telling that it might not be the freshest hamburger bun on Wade Hampton. The Philly I ordered was drenched in the worst tasting mayonnaise I have ever had. Child's portion of meat and a few onions and maybe a pepper slice. I ate 1/4 of the sandwich before pushing it away- feeling nauseated as if the salmonella was already cultivating in my gut. I have eaten sone pretty poor quality food in my life but I will honestly say it was very close if not the worst. The waitress was pleasant but the person responsible for clearing the tables tried to take the food away 3 times while my friend was eating and after I asked her for a doggy bag to take the 3/4 of the Philly back to my dogs. My friend finished his mush and hood fries and the waitress brought a box and the person budding the tables swished in to claim her prizes. While paying at the counter the young lady asked how was everything? I said "Honestly that was the worst thing I have ever tasted.". Her response was "oh, I'm sorry to hear that, your total is $23.32, would you like to add a tip to that?". I should give this place a 1 Star but at least my friends fries were hot. Definitely will...
