Popped into Rockwood Market Hall after a long walk and decided to try something new, I'm very glad I did. The plate I had from Alleamin African Kitchen, tucked into the back corner of the main dining area, was some of the best food I've had in a very long time. My (HUGE!) $18 plate consisted of complexly spiced stewed red lentils, tender beef and vegetables, a fresh salad, and chewy, hot flatbread. Every part of the meal was delicious and interesting. In addition to the amazing food, the people running the place were so nice and welcoming and had a lovely chat with me about how they spice their lentils (because if I ever figure it out, I'm going to be eating lentils a lot more often!). Simply some of the best food I've ever had in a city that seems to be full of Expensive But Just Okay food spots, probably the best Food Pod restaurant I've ever eaten at. I would give eleven stars if I could, and I will be back to try everything else on the menu as soon as I can.

We were hungry on a Friday afternoon and wanted to try something new. The lamb shank in photos from other reviews looked delicious, so we agreed to visit this place. We ordered 2 vegetarian sambusas, 2 chapati, lamb shank with rice and salad, and goat. The goat wasn't quite ready when we arrived, so the owner cooked the sambusas first and brought them out to us while we waited. The dough was crispy on the outside, tender and flavorful. And the vegetable filling was so fragrant! We couldn't identify all the ingredients, but we agreed that the sambusas were good enough to make us want to come back. When the rest of the food came out, the lamb shank was huge and tender. The goat with bone in had the most savory exposed bone marrow. The rice was perfectly seasoned, and the salad included sweet cherry tomatoes. I ate both chapati - stretchy, flaky, toasted on a hot grill. Everything was perfect!

Best Somali food in the PNW! African kitchens are hard to find out here, and if you’re curious but on the fence about trying it, come here! The cook was personable and the food portions are very generous. And because the food is made with quality ingredients, it smells just as great as it looks and I really like that this kitchen is both black and family owned.

I had an amazing experience at Alleamin African Kitchen. I came in for dinner around 7:30 PM with two of my friends, and from the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The owner was incredibly patient, kind, and genuinely hospitable.

What really stood out was his generosity and dedication — we placed our initial order right before closing time, and even 15 minutes after they had officially closed, he was still willing to prepare another order for us while cleaning up. That kind of service is rare and deeply appreciated.

The food was absolutely delicious, and as a kind gesture, he even gave me the remaining smoothie from the blender that he had made for my friend. It was a small touch, but it spoke volumes about the kind of people running this place.

Great food, great vibes, and truly outstanding service. I’ll definitely be coming back and highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a genuine and flavorful...

Me and my buddy showed up to try this place after looking at the reviews and it lived up to it's rating and some!! The food will rival any fine dining sit down $50 plate. It is incredibly delicious and generous portions. We ordered 2 meals and 3 sides to try a bunch of the offerings and wound up taking basically a whole meal home of leftovers. However, I got to try a bunch of the menu items and they were all really, really good. This place knows how to season and how to cook. Tried the lamb and the chicken dishes with rice and veggies, the beef suqaar, and the veggie and beef sambusas. All of them were incredible. On top of that, it comes with a hot sauce on the side that looks a bit like a pink smoothie, but it is such a great flavorful spicy hot sauce. Can't recommend this place enough. Even if you live all the way out in Newberg or something, MAKE THE DRIVE OUT FOR THIS FOOD!! And get the pink...
