I am 100% Salvadoran the food in chepe's is a lets call it New Salvadoran food. I mean is like eat tacobell and think os mexican food. The it wasn't 100% Salvadoran. But has the touch of salvadoran food. Obviously the grand ma is in the back of salvadoran restaurant cooking and to who ever is not Salvadoran that is the most traditional way at home in el salvador where families lives tohather in the same house. Howeber the food have some differences decorations texture, even presentation. It seem like the Salvadoran Americans put their touch there to make a American melting pot style of the Salvadoran,Mexican and American traditions witch give tou as result a version of the original food that sometimes can be GOOD SOME TIMES NO MUCH PUPUSA TOO THIN AND TOO DRY ALMOST LIKE FLAT BREAD pupusa is cheesy full of fat and creamy cheese. Salsa ok curtido coleslaw salad great Plaintains fry I red this in a previous review and yes. Como on guy fry plaintains in a diferent pot and have that oil exclusively to fry plantains, empanadas, and sweet dessert and a pot with oil for fish and yuca. The plaintains has his own flavor you guys are ruining the flavor of a nice plaintains with that fishy taste Casamiento I know you guys can cook casamiento all time but come on the casamiento seem to came out of the freezer to the microwave. No too bad but what people will think about Salvadoran food. At the and the fish pupusa must to have the fish inside with the cheese not on top like a fish and chips style. That pupusa was a mix of english,Mexican and salvadoran. Presentation was great but I was not expected a blend or english mexican and salvadoran in once dish. To and want to know if CHEPE,S IS 100% SALVADORAN. THE ANSWERS FROM ME IA NO IS AN AMERICAN VERSION OF EVERYTING IN THE AMERICAN KITCHENS THAT TASTE GREAT NO BUT NOT HORRIBLE. CAN IMPROVE. BUT REMEMBER SEE CHEPE'S AS A AMERICAN SALVADORAN DINNER NOT LILE AUTENTIC SALVADORAN RESTAURANT. DO I RECOMENDED YEAH WHY NOT. AS AN EXPERIENCE TO LEARN A NEW FLAVOR AND WAYS TO...
Read moreIf you are in the Gresham- Portland area, there is a Central American restaurant that caters to food from Honduras, El Salvador, and Mexican staples. Pulling up to the restaurant one notices that the foot traffic is constant which is a great sign. The food came quickly , the price was reasonable to a point since we ordered 2 speciality pollo Guisado (guanaco) and tacos/tamal plate in addition Yuca con Chicharrón, along with a baleada, and two pupusas con queso. The food came hot and steamy. It was made to order. Here’s my thoughts of the food we ordered: The chicken dish was over seasoned. The yuca side order made the paper plate transparent. The pupusa ($4 per pususa) although over priced, had a decent flavor. The tamal was beefy and did not disappoint. Overall I paid around $55 for 3 people which wasn’t bad but not worth that high price. The ambiance reminds me of a lounge I used to go to, with loud music and low lights. I’m willing to give this place a second change when I visit Portland area again. *Be ready to pay a high price $$$ *Be ready to wait on your food (depending on employee staffing) *If you happened to be Mexican, Honduran, Salvadoran, don’t expect authentic dishes but a simulation of...
Read moreI live pretty close to this place and wanted pupusas, so we decided to give this place a try. The cashier was polite, however they were horribly under staffed. We ordered food and an alcoholic drink. To get the alcoholic drink, required you to go to the back of the building and show your receipt to the person at the bar. We walked back and noticed the overly crowded volley ball courts connected to this restaurant and about a dozen people already in line waiting for alcoholic drinks. Which would of have been fine, however the bartender was extremely slow and people were ordering multiple drinks to take outside to others. We ordered at 11:37 am. Our food came out about 12:00pm and one of us had to leave the line to go find a table. 15 minutes later, the bartender finally produced a Michelada. So from ordering to finally sitting down to eat, it took 38 minutes. By which point our food was only luke warm. Food tasted good, I suspect would have been better had it been hot. It should not have taken almost 40 minutes to get a drink. They have volley ball patrons every Sunday at least. It would be common sense to bring in a second person to help...
