I am mortified with the treatment I have received at one of my favorite sushi restaurants. I have been. Coming for years over 10 but what’s insane is I never sit in The inside. Me and my family of 2 adults 3 children I wanted them to experience the food. And was welcomed by a very displeasing hostess stating before sitting we would need to pay gratuity to even be seated, well huh that was very displeasing especially being African American, was I expected not to tip? and never seeing any of my own kind in the place but nonetheless. I advised her that we would also be ordering things to go for my father. She went and got a “approval” and came back. She seated us right in the front of the place and when I asked hey could we be seated in the back she again had to get an approval. She came back and told us no we had to sit in the front. Being way past my children’s dinner i swallowed my pride and sat down. While being seated a family of 5 came in that was not our skin color and was told they needed to tip as well to be seated the family was displeased and was told they could sit outside and order instead. The waiter recognized how displeased I looked and advised the family that they could sit inside at the very table my same family of five asked to sit at??? Now you see why I am livid. Now to expect a tip would be insane. A love for this place was definitely lost. Displeasing and bad taste in my mouth. You would think times would have changed huh, no way. I hate that I didn’t stand up for myself and my right to patron the place I loved for many years but that’s the risk you take eating inside of a place you thought you loved, people show their true qualities and sometimes things are not always as good as they seem. You deserve to sit down and enjoy your family. Black people this one is not for you unless you want to spend you money and get take out I am certain they would treat you better, would be your best bet. The man in the picture is the “boss” the man that was telling the hostess to carry on with this non sense and treat people this way, also denying accountability and barking and watching my...
Read moreNEVER COMING HERE AGAIN!!! HORRIBLE SERVICE, RUDE SERVERS, OVERPRICED FOOD!!! I recently made a takeout order from Yami Sushi. I placed a large order for my family because we were having a celebration. The girl on the phone was extremely impatient with the amount of food we were ordering. Once I was done ordering, she told me I needed to PAY OVER THE PHONE because the order was more than $100. I have never experienced this and we always order food for more than $100 (and have always picked it up and paid at least 20% gratuity!) I said fine, and gave the extremely rude server my credit card number. I came to pick up my food, and because it was a large order, I asked for 10 teriyaki sauces. The girl gave me a strange look and said that each of the boxes of teriyaki chicken have sides of teriyaki, but I explained that we like lots of teriyaki and we have a lot of food so I would like the 10 sauces. She proceeded to tell me that I would need to pay extra for SAUCE after ordering $170 worth of food!!! I said no, I’m not paying for extra sauce, so I asked if I could speak with someone else. She went to her coworker and began whispering about me, pointing fingers at me, glaring, and laughing. This happened for 5 minutes while I stood there and waited to pick up the food I already paid for. She then went to the back to an older gentleman who was in the kitchen and told him that I “refused to pay for extra sauces” he bluntly told her to give them to me. She came back, didn’t say a word to me, and began loading the sauces into my takeout bags. She aggressively handed me the food, continued to give me a dirty look, and I asked her for my receipt. She threw it in my direction. I made sure to leave NO TIP for her!!!
My husband and I have been coming to Yami for years, even before their tragic fire. We waited patiently for them to reopen, despite covid and all other issues. Unfortunately, we will NEVER be coming here again. The prices are NOT worth it anymore, and their “inflation...
Read moreTrying to find a legitimate Japanese restaurant with great, high quality food near me has been quite a challenge. Upon having tried just about every other place near me, I thought it was about time I tried Yami, which is a bit further from me. I'm so glad I did.
I ordered a Teriyaki Chicken Bowl, an order of of California rolls, a Spicy Tuna roll, and a hot bowl of Udon to complete the meal - all to myself! I ate until I couldn't breath. The food was so delicious I just couldn't stop myself.
The California rolls were ace, with the crab not saturated in mayo like other places, and had generous portions of avocado. Tasted crisp, fresh and balanced.
The Spicy Tuna was on point. I usually get a little queasy after eating Spicy Tuna from other places, but I was left wanting more of these. It had a perfect amount of kick, and tasted super fresh.
The Udon was simply delicious and perfectly complimented all the food. It had plenty of veggies, and the shrimp tempura was perfectly done.
I should have stopped there, but the Teriyaki was begging me to eat it. Once I started, I couldn't stop. The chicken was really high quality, and the portion size was great. Admittedly, the sauce was a tad on the sweet side, but man, the chicken was done well.
Having experienced most other places skimp on wasabi and Teriyaki sauce, I unwittingly asked them for extra when I came to pick up my food.
When I got home, I realized that I did not have to. I felt like for once a restaurant knows how people like to eat. They supplied plenty of wasabi and I found that the Teriyaki already had an extra cup of sauce inside the order. Great! I'll be...
