Love Love Love! Full Disclosure, Im a Card carrying 1st Generation Italian with Heritage from Lazio that LOVES his Pasta. This Homemade pasta is superior to anything I've had on the East Coast (Ive never been to the West Coast). All these reviews that say "Undercooked" have never seen the backside of a Wooden Spoon. The Pasta Here is OUTSTANDING! We watched every single order of pasta get fresh made. They don't make a bunch in the AM. They make and cut it Fresh by the order. You wont find that anywhere. You also wont find better Pasta Anywhere. I lived in CT for 35 Years and only a handful of spots even have Fresh In house made Pasta. Non of them on this level or even close to it. You knew when you walked in the door that this was going to be a FANTASTIC restaurant. Some would call it like a Dive Bar Style Restaurant. Old on the Inside and never updated. This Petina is what gave it its Charm You also knew that the food was going to be next level. It Didn't Disappoint!!! We dined on Good Friday at 4pm and there was a 10 Minute Wait. Therefor no meat for us. White Bean & Cheese Dip with Garlic Bread. 10/10 Was the perfect start to this amazing experience. Bread is in house made and Delicious. Cheese Lasagna - SPECTACULAR. Perfect cook on this dish. Just a little bit of burnt ends and the Lasagna Pasta was PERFECTLY Al Dente! Sauce is Spectacular and the ratios of cheese to layer to sauce hit just right! 10/10. I only Wished it was Saturday because I can only imagine how good this would be with their Blend of Meat! The Carbonara with Pappardelle & Peas - My non Italian (Sicilian) Wife loved this. In full Disclosure we ate it the Next Day (Good Friday Restriction). She said it was the Best pasta Dish she's ever had. I'm a big Carbonara guy and this isn't Traditional Carbonara. Its Cream Based and although its Delicious, its more of an Americanized Version similar to Americanized Alfredo. The Pasta Itself, Homemade Pappardelle was the Star of our entire experience. Ive never had such a perfectly cooked thick Pappardelle as this in my life. Highly Recommend but don't Grade it on Authenticity to anything found In Lazio ( Volla Biancocelesti 🤍🩵!!) Gemali with Pesto. Another star Dish we enjoyed. Too much Olive Oil would be my complaint. However, we would order this again. DESERTS - Tiramisu is Tasty but I'm a Ladyfinger Guy and Prefer a wetter version. For CT this is was Solid. Carrot Cake - YES!!!!!!!!!!!! Best Desert Award Goes Here. SO DAMN GOOD! Cannoli - Our son LOVED it So Dad got one also. Fresh Made I assume because the shell was Crispy. THIS PLACE IS WORTH AN HOUR PLUS DRIVE. And that's saying A LOT for Me! Will be another Must Have Stop on our Visits Back Home along with Saints Chili Hotdogs & Broasted Chicken in Plainville, Fuoco Pizza in Cheshire, Fords Black and Blue Lobster Rolls in Noank and The Fire Place Wings / Pizza in Southington.

Home made pasta and sauces. Home made desserts. You get garlic bread with your order. Delicious! This place gets super busy. We went at 3:30pm for an early dinner and our wait was about 15 minutes. By the time we left the wait was up to about a half hour and groups of people were waiting outside on the deck. It is a small place but I think that is probably the max the chefs can handle considering they make everything to order. Fresh vegetables in sauces. Everything is full of flavour. The food is offered in 2 sizes. Large is for the truely big appetited individual. Small is more a normal portion with a little to take home for the next day. The pasta is tender with the manicotti or ravioli. Done al dente is the fettuccini. Every sauce seems to be different in spice according to the dish. This is NOT like olive garden where they have 5 basic sauces they use for everything. This is pasta elevated to the next level. I got the fettuccini ragu that has a semi spicy sauce. It had fresh mushrooms, green peppers ( that still were crispy), and tomatoes along with Italian sausage and meatball pieces over homemade fettuccini pasta. My boyfriend ordered Dorthy's meat lasagna. We tried eachothers and loved them both. I looked around at what other people ordered and overheard rave reviews about everything. I overheard a server recommending the chicken fettuccini Alfredo. The man said it was amazing. We never order dessert but the food was so good we ordered 2 pieces of tiramisu to have later. It was perfect. Next time we will call in our order and do take out because it was to busy for us. Everyone was nice considering how hectic it was. There is a small public parking lot down the street if the lot down behind is full. Get there early and be patient. It is worth the wait. 😁

First time in on a Friday at about 6pm. Really cool location on the Thames in Groton. This place does not take reservations. Show up and wait. No place to sit while waiting as the dining area is pretty small. We gave our name and number and sat in our car for about 30 minutes. The view was nice at night with the fog, so it wasn't a bad wait save the anticipation to try the food. Finally seated, waitress Rachel was really nice and patient even though they were really busy. Smiles and warmth go a long way with me. The restaurant is a little outdated. I wouldn't call it a romantic date night. Tables are also very close together, loud, no privacy. Got the breaded chicken alfredo, mozarella herbed garlic bread, and Dorothy's meat lasagna. Bread hit the table in about ten minutes and was one of the best garlic breads I've had. Lots of marinara to accompany it! We ate the whole loaf while waiting. Our entrees came out about 15 minutes later. The alfredo sauce is the winner. One of the best. Chicken cutlet was really good. Pasta is fresh on both entrees, really a highlight. My lasagna was decent, not the best I've had. I did enjoy the generous amount of sausage in it, a little too saucy for me, but maybe that's from already eating so much sauce and garlic bread. Notice our pictures, these were the small portion option of each entree and we could barely eat half. Took the rest home. Also ordered three cans of Coke. Our bill was only $43! For the value, totally worth it. Again, five stars to Rachel, she was great. I will eat here again, maybe on a less busy weeknight.

7/22/18 I really wanted to like Paul's Pasta Shop, but it turned out, to me at least, to be very average, at best. I had a bowl of clam bisque that, while flavorful and having an adequate amount of clams, was so thick that it could literally have been eaten with a fork. It had the consistency of oatmeal. I ordered the lunch portion of lasagna, and my dining companion had the lunch size portion of cheese ravioli that consisted of FOUR squares.. We both made note of how incredibly thin and soupy the sauce was on both our lunches. It was literally as thin as soup. It tasted fine however. My lasagna was quite average tasting, though a nice size portion for lunch. My companion said her (4) ravioli was about the same quality as could be found in the freezer case at the grocery store. The meal was a good value at $28.00 for the bisque, a garden salad, two lunches, and two glasses of iced tea. Service was very good, and the view overlooking the Thames River toward New London was beautiful. Finding a place to park on the very, very narrow old New England seaport street was an adventure all its own, but not a deal breaker.

After hearing all the great reviews, I really wanted to love Paul’s Pasta Shop. My family and I stopped in while on vacation, hoping for a great local pasta spot. It’s definitely a small, hole-in-the-wall place with a bit of a 70s vibe—not necessarily a bad thing, just a little dated. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the service was impressively fast, but the space was really tight and cramped, which made it a little uncomfortable. As for the food, it was… fine. Not bad by any means, but not amazing either. I ordered the carbonara, and I’ll admit that part of my disappointment was on me—I didn’t realize it was made with an Alfredo-style sauce instead of the traditional preparation. That threw me off a bit. The rest of the family had a mix of dishes, and while everyone ate their meals, no one was really raving about them. Overall, it’s a decent spot with great service, but the food just didn’t live up to the hype for us. Maybe we just ordered the wrong things, but it wasn’t the standout meal we were hoping for.

My boyfriend and I have eaten here twice. The first time we came he got the primavera and I had the lobster ravioli. The primavera was very tasty, however, I was not impressed with the lobster ravioli. The portion was very small and the dish did not taste like it had any lobster in it. I decided to give it another try because maybe I had just made a poor choice the first time. The next we came in, we got the chicken diablo and the eggplant parmesan. The chicken diablo was decent. However, the eggplant parmesan was very disappointing. The eggplant tasted soggy and mushy...I am used to a crispier breading. Additionally, the entire bed of pasta did not have any sauce on it. This made the dish even drier. Perhaps this is how pasta sides are served with these dishes, however it was not something that I expected. I will say the staff is very kind and attentive! The prices are pretty cheap, and they do give you a lot of bread with your dish.
