Cacio & Pepe, in the bustling Plaza Chalets de Caparra, has garnered a reputation as a popular dining destination, but it may not fully live up to the hype. A reservation is a must, particularly during weekends and evenings after 7 PM, when the restaurant is at its busiest. However, be prepared for a dining experience that, while solid, leaves much to be desired.
The evening began with a series of underwhelming appetizers: the Funghi Ripieni and the soup of the day were both forgettable. For the main course, we sampled the Chicken Marsala, Parmigiana di Melanzane, and Involtini di Pollo. While all were competently prepared, none of the dishes stood out as particularly memorable.
The Budín de Almendras was the highlight, offering a pleasant finish to the meal, while the tiramisu fell flat, lacking the rich, creamy indulgence that should define this classic Italian dessert. Service, though friendly in parts, was slow—an understandable drawback given the crowd but still a point of frustration. My advice? Study the menu and place your entire order at once, from appetizers to desserts, to minimize the waiting time.
The cocktail menu was another letdown, with several listed options unavailable, suggesting the need for a revamp to better match the restaurant’s ambitions. On a positive note, valet parking is offered, and credit cards are accepted, adding some convenience to the experience.
Overall, Cacio & Pepe suffers from an unfortunate combination of high prices, crowded spaces, and a lack of a "wow" factor. The restaurant's popularity may draw in the crowds, but it fails to deliver an experience that justifies its reputation. For now, it remains a decent option, but with significant room for...
Read moreWe went on Sunday July 11, 2021. Nice little place we arrived without reservation or anything. We waited like 5 minutes to be seated, the place was packed. Our order was taken promptly, we order the pomodor, and it was delicious all made fresh. After that we ordered, my gf ordered the rigattoni Bologgnese and I ordered tortellini di vitello ripieno, which is tortellini stuffed with veal with gorgonzola on white creamy suace. Food was excellent rigattoni sauce was rich and thick a good portion size, the tortellini stuffing was on point moist and fresh pasta perfectly cooked with a creamy sauce perfectly seasoned with the perfect amount of cheese. Only sad thing about my plate? I finished it too fast. For dessert we ordered tiramisu and espresso and was heavenly. In general it was a great experience with great food, good prices and the service was ok, sometimes we had to wait awhile for service but nothing crazy. Everyone was friendly and the place was clean. I will be...
Read moreI love Italian food and I don’t mind paying for the food, but this place seem to be a family place and if you are not known, the service was the worst. I waited aprox 30 min to be able to ask for a drink, wanted to order some appetizers but she never look our way. I was finally able to order food, the food was done quick, but again the waitress didn’t even ask if we wanted something else to drink. I had to ask for water. The waiters didn’t even look our way, and I had to ask one of the guys to give me water. Pizza is bread and w/o something to drink, is imposible. Needless to say I didn’t even eat my pizza ( didn’t like it, it wasn’t that it was bad, but it didnt appeal my taste). I would recommend it, but if you are like me, were service is important, don’t go. Again, every experience is different,...
