I was going to go for the Dunkin's bagel but decided to look for a genuine bagel shop nearby. Deke's was the only shop in Guilford. I scanned the menu for bagel prices and it was a bit high compared to NY prices but thought it was price for getting bagels outside of NY at $1.75 (per menu). It said single bagel was $175 but to my surprise they were charging $1.82. They should fix the menu board prices. But to my disbelief, they charged extra for onion ($0.25) and garlic ($0.30). Is this a pizza shop with topping??? You certainly can charge whatever you want but it should be posted in plain sight (if I missed it), if the practice is uncommon. You certainly will be upset when you pay extra for grazing on donut. If they were going to charge extra for onion, they should state as PLAIN BAGLE $1.82 and not as single bagel as $1.75 and charge $2.07 for it. I got there at the opening hour of 7am. I expected hot bagel fresh out of the oven since I got there at the opening time. Surprise surprise !! They were icy cold. For final and minor detail, I asked them to be sliced and they came unsliced.
Correction: bought 3 bagels and 1 came sliced and 2 did not.
Before you update the POS prices, please consider fixing the prices on menu...
Read moreNestled in the heart of Guilford, Deke's Bagels is a hidden gem that deserves every bit of praise it gets. From the moment you step in, the aroma of freshly baked bagels fills the air, complemented by the enticing scent of locally roasted Perkatory coffee. It's a sensory delight that sets the stage for what's to come.
Let's talk about the bagels - they are simply to die for. Chewy yet soft, with a perfect crust, they are hands down better than any competition in the area. Choosing a breakfast sandwich was no easy feat because each option sounded mouthwateringly delicious. Eventually, I settled on the Taylor pork sandwich and the Marigotta, both of which were absolute stars.
The Taylor pork sandwich was a symphony of flavors, with tender pork complemented by just the right amount of salty, smoky, and chersy. On the other hand, the Marigotta boasted a perfect balance of avocado and creamy elements that left me craving more.
Overall, Deke's Bagels exceeded my expectations. The quality of their food, coupled with the welcoming atmosphere and friendly service, ensures that I'll be returning again and again. Whether you're a local or just passing through, do yourself a favor and pay them a visit. You...
Read moreI’m editing my post to reflect the owners response below. As I can admit when I’m wrong and I wouldn’t want to disparage a local business in that sense, as I always try to support and uplift great businesses in town.
I will however, still stand by the service going downhill over the last year- which sorry but it’s true. I will also say, If you want to avoid people concluding that your business is closed, you ought to improve your external communication, update your hours on google, address concerns from patrons on local websites and not reply in a snarky, snotty manner to a loyal customer such as myself being frustrated by your lack of consistent hours, as well as commenting on information I heard from your other customers both by word of mouth and on Facebook. A simple response letting me know that your hours have changed and that evidently I was misinformed, and I would have retracted my prior comment without issue and apologized but now I see that my assertion around your poor service is indeed correct. I stand by my one star...
