My husband and I were out and about in Gulfport and didn't know where we'd like to eat. I wanted to take him somewhere nice in celebration of Father's Day. This place popped up, and I thought it sounded authentic and quaint. Walked in, the atmosphere was nice from the start. Sinatra was playing on the speakers at just the right volume, and they immediately asked us where we'd like to sit. I couldn't decide between the Shrimp and Grits or the Seafood Lasagna so Hubby and I got both, as well as some roasted potatoes. The food was EXCELLENT. The server (Kevin) was very attentive, but not overly so. This was despite how often my husband and I changed what we were drinking (coffee, soda water, etc), and despite my asking a million questionsabout menu items. The Seafood Lasagna may not have been as photogenic as the Shrimp and Grits, so I don't have a photo but MAN. It was the BEST. It was RICH, perfect for a "cheat meal." Had a very unique buttery profile, yet something familiar enough to taste like comfort food. The tiramisu was top knotch as well. I also really enjoyed my coffee, and my husband enjoyed his Smores Old Fashioned. We both said we would come back time and again just for the atmosphere and that LASAGNA! The shrimp and grits were amazing as well- as they had polenta in lieu of regular grits and an unique flavor profile I'd never had before either. It's just our personal favorite was that Lasagna haha! Very happy with our random choice. Even more pleased that my husband enjoyed his well deserved Father's Day dinner- especially since he has somewhat refined tastes. We will certainly be back, for a window seat witha view of the water next time.

Had a wonderful dining experience last night at Mangiamo! Took the wife and family out for an amazing dinner. Chef Aaron wowed us with an amazing custom scallop appetizer for the occasion, then we HAD to get the homemade meatball appetizer with whipped ricotta to share with their rich tomato sauce and grilled bread for sopping. Ordered the Caprese salad with burrata cheese thinking it would be a small dainty portion...wrong. Totally shareable! Talked my son into getting the rigatoni bolognese (my fav) and he couldn't even finish it with its rich meaty sauce. (I get the take home bonus.) Wife got the chicken piccata with it's tangy lemony sauce and Chef sub'd risotto per request in a huge side dish. So good and so much food! The grandkids got a humongous pizza for $20. Their pizzas are SO much bigger for the money compared to other pizza-only places on the Coast. And Perfecto cornicione crust! (Order to go folks!) I got the Tuscan shrimp and grits and this will REDEFINE how you think of S&G with Italian style. Shrimp done perfectly seared on outside and sweet and juicy inside. We didn't get it but this place has broccolini! Find that around here. Oh and have to mention, they quickly brings baskets of homemade rosemary bread to the table as soon as you are seated. BTW, wine pours are ample and the bartender super great to find something to suit your taste and budget. Atmosphere is also awesome with views of the bayou harbor out the window. Bring your date or family for an amazing experience and ample portioned amazing food. Thank you hosts and staff at Mangiamo! Buon Appetito!!

Easy parking. Friendly hostess, seated fairly quick without a reservation. Server was friendly and knowledgeable of what was available and not on the menu. No specials. I ordered a French 75 which was a little off I'm thinking either the lemon juice or simple syrup was not fresh and it was served with a lime wedge instead of a lemon twist. Server brought out bread service with olive oil and garlic for dipping, it was very tasty. Ordered a side salad to go with my pasta dish and the Italian dressing was very spicy, I thought it might just be me so I had my husband finish it and he agreed. Burned my tongue and lips. My pasta dish was the Penne with A La Vodka sauce. It was made in an unusual way to me, I thought I give it a try but it's very cheesy, kind of overbearing cheesy. My experience has always been with that sauce is it's mariana with heavy cream and vodka. It wasn't horrible just not what I'm used to. My husband ordered sea scallops which come with mushroom risotto. First of all, there are only 4 scallops and they were undercooked, still transparent inside even and the risotto was mush no bite to it at all. It tasted okay but it was not cooked properly either. My husband is not one to complain and usually eats what is given to him and did so here too. The place looks very nice inside and everyone working there was pleasant. I'll give it another shot cause I really want to like it. I'll try different items next time and hope for a better outcome. We're Italian so I need a place to go other than my own home to eat.

Where to start... I probably won't eat anything with tomato for a month... More on that in a bit. Service was good, waitress was very nice.

Wife's fork had food on it, my bread plate was greasy and clearly not washed, the glass of wine that I ordered had lipstick on it.

The food... Ordered arancini and mussels for apps, wife ordered the carbonara, I ordered the frutti di mare, baby ordered a small order of fettucini Alfredo with chicken. Ordered a classic negroni from their menu, which was SHAKEN, not stirred. Asked for a replacement from the bartender whom seemed pretty annoyed from my request. Got it back stirred, much better. Rule of thumb, only shake cocktails with citrus in it. (Yes, that's right, martinis included)

I can tell you now, they put no salt on anything. Who knows if they have salt in the kitchen. The arancini was sitting on a meat sauce, with what seemed to be more of the meat sauce inside it. Such overpowering tomato on the meat, I could not taste the arancini. The mussels were sitting on a tomato sauce as well, no toast, ended up using the table bread. The table bread I would say was the best part of the meal. The menu says tomato BROTH. What was on these dishes was concentrated tomato paste. Omg, I would have never thought I would have too much tomato, but it has happened. Whatever, added salt to everything, tried to eat it anyways.

Entrees came, guess what, more concentrated tomato paste. I was so over tomato at this point, I was scraping it off the frutti di mare, which also came without toast. Wife's carbonara had no pepper, the guanciale must have been undercooked (all 5 small pieces that were on the dish anyways) because it was rubbery and flavorless, and it needed salt. For having a dish with mostly hearty ingredients, it didn't taste like much. Wife liked the fettucini Alfredo the best out of everything. I beg you! Ease it up off the tomato! Omg, it's like a mimosa, you want sparkling with oj for color-just a splash for a little acidity. Moving on...

Desert... We each got our own tiramusu, which was DOUSED with chocolate sauce. Couldn't taste the tiramusu over the Hershey's sauce, so much like my entree, found myself scraping the sauce off again. We ordered 2 macchiatos, told the waitress how to make it, and ended up with a single shot of... Erm, don't really know what it was, a half full coffee cup of mostly milk (no foam) and a dash of espresso maybe? Waitress said it was a learning experience as she dropped off the coffee drinks. Didn't drink mine, they comped it off.

Food was awful, have leftovers which will probably sit in the fridge until it has to get tossed. Bill was $150. Waaaay overpriced for the food quality. Would have taken pictures but had a movie on for the little one.

I will probably not return, not worth it at all...

There's a reason I don't eat out very often and it's because I constantly feel like I waste my money eating out. For my step-dad bday we got a large take out order of spaghetti and meatballs, lasagna's, pizza, bread, salads (Ceasars and house), and a beef carpaccio. Let's start with the spaghetti and meatballs. The noodles were overcooked. The meatballs were waaay overseasoned and salty. They were dense as can be. Meatballs mince should be lightly formed. They clearly overworked them into a dense meatball. Not to mention the marinara was way too sweet. The lasagna was layer after layer of soft overcooked pasta. It had barely any ricotta or bolognese/ragù and again their overly sweet marinara dumped all over it which the water from it leaked out of the containers all over everything. The pizza was mediocre. We re-crispened it in the oven on a pizza stone and the sweet red sauce was tempered by the other ingredients on the pie. Overall not bad. But that's the only half decent food we got. The Ceasar salad was pre dressed and waaay too much dressing so the lettuce was completely mush when we got it. The house salad was pretty basic and croutons were soggy as they were tossed right over the wet ingredients and not kept separate. And the beef carpaccio was suppose to be served with a lemon aioli but instead was served with a balsamic which completely overpowered the dish. It was a real disappointment as I heard wonderful things about this place. But clearly the reputation didn't fit the experience we had. And I understand takeout has an effect on textures in travel. (Which should be accounted for in the setup of the takeout) But this wasn't just about textures. This was mainly about flavors which just didn't work.. again I rarely eat out because I'm constantly disappointed in my eating experiences.. tonight was no exception. My Italian heart was saddened. Was hoping to find a great Italian experience. But alas.. for that I'll have to cook in my own kitchen as usual. 🇮🇹

A lot of...

I’ve eaten here many times in the past year and it went from a great restaurant with incredible attentiveness to very mediocre attentiveness and staff members that don’t exactly explain the meals with great detail.

My girlfriend and I came here for Valentine’s Day for a date night and waited over 15 minutes after being seated to be asked what we would like to drink. This is understandable after watching and observing that there was only what looked to be 2-3 waitresses for the whole night. But the wait times from the kitchen was also much longer than anticipated. We decided on choosing the valentine special which just stated “Whole Flounder” on the chalk board. I asked our waitress to please describe how it is cooked and or seasoned to understand if we want it or not and we were told that it was seasoned very well and has a great flavor, that was it. Us thinking this would be a good deal since it was the valentine special, we were led wrong. The flounder was only seasoned on the outside and not stuffed. It also had a sweet raspberry glaze on top that did not match with the seasonings. If we were told it had the glaze, we would’ve chosen something else. The appetizer and the dessert were good with no complaints. But as we ate, we watched others come in and were led to the bar because they did not have a reservation. Which we realized this was causing the bartender to become very busy and backed up and they were not able to make drinks for us or other tables around us. Now today 2/15, my girlfriend and I do not feel great after eating this meal, our stomachs feel very weak and we both feel nauseous. I’m not one to make reviews about a restaurant but to see such a great establishment start to decrease like this is very saddening. We unfortunately will not be coming back...
