Whenever I crave ramen, Foo Foo Tei comes to mind--even if it takes over 40 min drive! I've been here about 4 times now with family. Their ramen is consistently delicious, whether shoyu (soy sauce), shio (salt) or miso based. Even their "nanchatte" ramen is good and I think that is a milky soy based broth. Foo Foo Tei gives huge portions for a decent price from $9-12, and the bowls come full of meat and toppings. Additional side toppings for an extra fee is always a possibility. The menu is huge, they even serve alcohol, so there's something for everyone.
My husband tried their eel rice in a bento box for about $13 and it was one of the best eel dishes he's ever had, even when comparing it to Japan. It seemed soft boiled as it was so soft and moist. It was filleted with little to no bones.
The grilled salmon my m-i-l looked very crisp and smelled fragrant, as it was marinated/cooked in miso.
Their simple salad with a citrus dressing, yuzu, was also delicious.
Service is very nice and friendly. There's always a long line and wait, however. Parking is very limited. Bathroom is clean and large enough to have a baby...
Read moreJapanese restaurant off the beaten path. This place serves very large bowls of ramen for a reasonable price. Note that they do take credit card with a $10 minimum purchase. My sister chose to come here to celebrate her bday and loves the curry ramen. Every time she comes here, she gets that. It’s very hearty and the broth has a thickness to it that’s quite comforting. My dad loves the menudo ramen, as it’s a great marriage of Mexican and Japanese flavors. This time around, I got the omurice with a pork cutlet. It came with a salad and miso soup. The salad had a nice, bright citrus dressing and a honeydew on top. The omurice curry sauces way flavorful and the pork cutlet was well done. I know that the white cream ramen is popular here but I find it too rich, so I would suggest sharing that if you’re going to order it. The service is very polite and friendly. There’s a parking lot as well as easy street parking. Overall it’s a really home-y restaurant...
Read moreFoo Foo Tei is the OG of authentic Japanese restaurant and been there for 15+ years. With their delectable ramen and an array of comforting dishes, this place truly embodies the essence of Japanese cuisine. The staff members consistently greet you with warmth, providing excellent recommendations that add to the experience. The portion sizes are impressively generous, easily shareable among more than one person. The food was both delicious and flavorful.
While the food steals the spotlight, it's worth noting that the restaurant's physical space could benefit from a remodel, as it's showing signs of aging. Additionally, the AC struggles to keep up when the place is bustling. But hey, at the end of the day, it's the food that matters most, right?
A quick tip: Foo Foo Tei might be nestled in an industrial area and an unconventional spot, yet it's remarkably easy to locate. And if the parking lot happens to be full, there are many streets parking...
