The most epic sashimi meal ever!!!
Thanks to my dear friend Steven W who caught a 20lb yellowfin tuna this past weekend on his fishing trip, the restaurant was able to accommodate all 7 of us for a specialty tasting of a 9 course meal ranging from sashimi to fish soup made from the tuna he caught. Each dish came out beautifully presented and absolutely delicious.
1st course: Seared Peppered Tuna with Seaweed Salad - flavorful and seared perfectly
2nd course: Seared Tuna with Tempura Onion - loved the crispy onions and the thinly cut seared tuna
3rd course: Baked Mussels - I usually don't like mussels but these mussels were very tasty. They are baked in a sweet teriyaki sauce topped with imitation crab, salmon roe, and green onions.
4th course: Tempura Veggies - crispy and nicely battered
5th course: Tuna Sashimi - thick cuts of tuna sashimi served with red radish and sprinkled with gold flakes. This dish was the fanciest of all the dishes. Also, the thick slices of tuna melted in my mouth. I was worried that the thick pieces would be too fishy but that wasn't the case at all. The fish was so fresh and I could tell it was never frozen so the quality was never compromised.
6th course: Thinly Cut Tuna Sashmi - this dish was similar to the thicker cut sashimi but it was cut in thin pieces and served with green onion.
7th course: Tuna Nigiri - ratio of fish to rice was perfect. There wasn't too much rice so we were able to enjoy more of the fish without getting full off rice.
8th course: Dragon Roll - they threw this dish in as an extra for us that is part of their AYCE sushi menu.
9th course: Tuna in Clear Broth - This was an awesome way to end our dinner with refreshing fish broth. They saved leftover pieces of the fish and made the broth out of it.
Props to the sushi chef for putting this epic dinner together and showing us their creative craft in all the dishes they presented to us. I haven't had this much seafood in awhile and I was very much spoiled. I can't wait to come back and try their AYCE menu ($18 lunch and $24 dinner).

Read moreWe came here on Easter Sunday and felt a little jipped because we were supposed to have 90 minutes for all you can eat sushi, and we had called at like 5:30 to check what time they closed that night, and was told 10 pm, but that they would seat their final tables at 7:30. Okay, no problem. So we got there at 7:15 and after our first round (you get to order as much as you want per round, but 3 rounds max) we were told to please make our last selections soon because they were closing early (???).
They were really nice and accommodating, and did allow us to take some of the stuff to go (which, if you don't know, is not usually allowed for AYCE). I was asking if I could get the macarons to go since they are just dry items, and our server actually gave us all 3 dessert items, which was super nice.
In their rush to close the sushi chefs also kind of forgot/skipped over a lot of our sushi orders, which is kinda upsetting. I triple checked our list for the second round and I'd ordered 5x (2 pieces per order) of salmon, tuna, AND yellowtail, then 3x of the escolar. The plate that came out had everything but the yellowtail, and it was clearly forgotten because no explanation was given.
My boyfriend and I also really enjoy the lamb skewers, which, also due to the closing early deal, our server let us take home in a box. I've been here before and the sushi was really good and fast and the proportions are generous compared to rice size, etc, but the server definitely saved them to a 4 star instead of 3 star review for being accommodating.
Maybe it was a slow night but I still feel like us sitting down for like 45 minutes out of our 90 total and being rushed to finish ordering and leave was just not cool, especially when we called ahead to ask and were told they close at...
Read moreThis will be my first and last time to visit this establishment. Right when we walked in we were not greeted like when you walk in to a regular good sushi spot. We were the only party waiting when we walked in (party of 7) and got asked 3 different times by 3 different people how many people were in our party. The place was not full at all and we were still told we'd have a 15 min wait. When we finally got seated, the waiter tried pushing the all you can eat menu on us. When our drinks arrived my brother's cup still had lipstick around the rim. We asked for apple juice for my son and they didnt have any. Also, dont try and ask for flavored tea cause that wont happen either. This place is mainly a grown up restaurant, not kid friendly at all. Nothing on the menu for kids, nor when you ask do they have anything for kids. My wife's beef bento bowl had undercooked beef and was still pink and red. My sister's chicken was also undercooked. My family and I ended up going to the pizza spot that's in the next parking lot over because we were still hungry. Our waitress was pretty rude at times and they only checked on us twice at the start of our meal and I had to flag a waiter down to go our check. The place wasnt even packed. One last thing I have is about the ambiance in the restaurant, I do not mind at all music that is explicit but to be playing it and showing it on the TVs while children are present is a different story. You claim to be a "family restaurant"?? Could have fooled me. Anyone who reads this and needs or wants a good sushi spot to go to, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND, UMI SUSHI. On hacienda and colima!! I have also posted pictures of what the tv had playing. I dont see this...
