This was supposed to be my son's special 18th birthday celebration. I am normally dining at the Morton's on 5th Avenue in a boardroom setting so right out the gate I know that I won't be experiencing an elevated experience like the one on 5th and I probably should have known better than to go to a mall for dinner, even if it's Morton's. So when we arrive, we are not greeted by the GM that you typically are on 5th. The staff didn't even look like they wanted to be there. It's funny how Morton's says 'business casual' for their patrons, meanwhile they have waiters with hair that have outgrown their face and head. Oh and PS, that business casual is merely a suggestion as it felt like we were at another dining establishment with everyone coming in from the mall. Our waitress came to take our order. She was fairly nice but definitely overwhelmed. Our order totalled north of $700.00 for the 4 of us. I figured, eh, let's put these first impressions aside, I know the food is excellent. Well, I was wrong--- VERY WRONG. The bacon steak is overly smoked and I'm not speaking about the touch of smoke, it was doused in liquid smoke. The seafood tower...let's see, the shrimp cocktail was rock hard, the lobster was inedible and you couldn't remove the meat from the shell. The poke was on point as always and now here's the kicker....the oysters. I got sick from them and oddly enough there was an article published that day about the cases of norovirus being linked to oysters in NJ. I saw the article after I had it already...The steaks were ok, nothing memorable honestly...we had a tomahawk, wagyu filet and a ribeye...the tomahawk was mostly fat. The sides were ok, the gratin was not a favorite, it tasted burned. The waiters kept pushing their way between my chair and the patron behind me because common sense doesn't exist to go around and like I said, I have to question the validity of the staff there because there is clearly a difference in hiring between here and the city. Upon leaving, we saw the room in the back opened, a much more intimate setting and I wish we were there. it didnt seem like a private party so I'm sure why they wouldn't offer it or open up sooner. I did get sick from the food apparently am still sick writing this on Christmas eve when I should have been celebrating with my family. Sorry Hackensack! I normally don't write reviews but what you're offering compared to what's being dished out and experienced are two very...
Read moreThis past Saturday, my wife and I wanted to have dinner before we heading to see the film Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. So we opted to eat at Morton's at Riverside in Hackensack.
We called Morton's on our way there to see if a reservation was needed for only the two of us, and after speaking with Don over the phone he explained to us that normally we would need a reservation but at the moment they didn't have any available tables and if we wanted a table our wait time would be at least 3 hours, he also further explained that we can sit by the bar on a "first come first serve" basis, which we opted for the latter.
Upon arrival we were greeted by Don, a presentable, nice young man. The place was packed and lively, we were in luck that no sooner we arrived and a couple of bar stools opened up.
We sat down, we met two fine bartenders: Georgie & Alex. Both were friendly, courteous and skilled at their craft. For drinks I got me a cocktail called "Island Bessie", my wife doesn't care for alcoholic beverages so she kept her glass of water. I asked Georgie for a couple of cherries for my drink and she obliged, they use real, dark cherries, not the fake maraschino's in a jar.
For appetizers we ordered: Grilled Oysters & French Onion soup. My wife's favorite appetizer dish is the French Onion soup and she said that this is the BEST she's ever had, I had a taste and she was absolutely right. The Grilled Oysters were out of this world, bursting with an intense flavor.
For entree I opted for the Miso Sea Bass with Bokchoy, she on the other hand wanted meat and got Grilled Prime Pork Chops. Our sides were Spinach with Mushrooms and Sour Cream Mashed Potatoes.
We both thought that this is what eating dinner in heaven must be like. What an exquisite & tender Sea Bass, the miso sauce gave it a flavorful touch. The Grilled Chops were so tender, juicy and delectable, the sides were superb!
Morton's is an expensive, classy restaurant, but oh its worth it! The service provided by Georgie and Alex was magnificent, they are both phenomenal people. My wife and I agreed that we must return again, well, as soon as I save some money for this luxury.
Edit Visited Morton's for Valentine's 2022 and it was a magnificent experience yet again. This time we were seated by a friendly young man Marquis we were served by the exemplary and outstanding Justice and Frankie, they were on point and attentive. Kudos to Morton's and its...
Read moreIf there was an option for zero stars this would be that review... Yesterday, my very close friends and I decided to have ladies night out at Mortons in Hackensack. At the beginjngnof the night the service was absolutely amazing, our waitress by the name of Ann was exceptional in presenting the menu specials to us... after about almost 2 hours the ladies and I had finished our 3 course meal ending with dessert however, was looking forward to catching up with some drinks before we left the establishment. The check was then dropped at our table.. We were all a bit stunded as we did not ask for the check as we had planned to order another round of drinks.. the waitress Ann then came back to the table to collect the check and I mentioned to her we would like another round of drinks.. she bent down and shouted " LADIES, IT HAS ALREADY BEEN 4 ROUNDS." shocked by her response, I was left with nothing to say... myself alone had consume only 2 drinks within a 3 hours period. After shouting at us, she continue to walk away and the manager Joe approached our table and asked if everything was ok.. we then paid for our dinner and I mentioned to Joe that we were not ok because we are now being denied service for no apparent reason... Joe walked away never to return.... .. as we were heading out ( for my own knowledge) I asked the hostess if there was a maximum amount of drinks we could have.. he said No and the other manager approached us (she) then explained that serving alcohol is based on judgment.( totally understandable) we were not drunk, we were not disturbing anyone .. simply talking amongst ourselves. The manager then agreed and offered to provide another round of drinks after mentioning she did not feel like we had reached our limit .. her exact words ( you ladies seem fine. You all seem very coherent).. all in all we will not be returning to this establishment after this... very upset as this was our first night out for our new traditional ladies night out... thank you Mortons for ruining the start of new...
