This was our first visit for a meal and it won't be our last! Hubby got the chicken and fish with yams and collards. No pic of his meal as he needed food quickly for low blood sugar. But I heard his usual moans and head nods. He also has Yhanne's cheesecake for dessert. I went all out with the Sunday Dinner. In true Sunday dinner fashion, this meal can last for several days, unless hubby digs in and that's highly likely. You almost didn't get a pic as I had my fork pumped twice before I stopped. All of my faves stuffed in one platter-turkey wing, fried & Bbcued chicken and a short rib. For my sides: Mac & cheese, rice, yams and collards. All of these sides filled every nook and cranny of the area under the foil. If I had an aunt named Berta this is exactly what I'd be savoring from her kitchen. While waiting for our food, two brothers from another Mother were raving to each other about the desserts and the meals they ordered. As the saying goes Aunt Berta's Kitchen, " your foot (or two) in that food!

Lady in the front was really nice. Listed all the items they had and told me to take my time. Picked up a church tea, and two mix n matches (2 meats and 2 sides). Got a smothered chicken and smothered pork chop with candied yams and green beans with potato. Smothered chicken and pork chop were delicious, potatoes and green beans too. Candied yams were okay, not my favorite though. Also got a Salisbury steak and fried pork chop with fries and collard greens. Pork chop was great, but they forgot the Salisbury steak so I'm not sure how that is. Got the fries on recommendation from a friend, but I thought they were just fries. A nice surprise, they came with some bread rolls wrapped on the side that I wasn't expecting. Never had church tea before, was interesting, but I thought I was picking up a sweet tea. Little disappointed that I made the mistake. Will have to come back earlier in the day to see if they just ran out of it when I was there.

I’ve been a few times. It’s hit or miss. The great reviews are due to it being one of the only local decent soul food spots on this side of the bridge, but when you’re from an area with a plethora of soul food spots you know good soul food. This unfortunately is not it. The mac n cheese is not bad; however the noodles are overcooked and it lacks the sharpness of extra sharp cheddar. The Cabbage is better than the collard greens. The meats are a bit underwhelming. The fried chicken is dry and the last time I got the smothered pork chop, it was inedible. Lots of fat. Weird texture. Lacked seasoning. Heavy breading and the gravy tasted like it was from the jar. They also only gave you 1 pork chop. It used to be 2 so the majority of the platter is actually sides and not the protein, which is odd. All and all, if you’re in a bind and need something then here is cool. If you have the time and energy, I’d explore else where.

Very nasty food , this is not soul food , nor is it good food ! What’s up with all these good reviews ? Same thing with corrienes in Camden , why do these places have good reviews ? they are all terrible and have no POW to their food ! Those good reviews have to be bots or the people eating at these places don’t know the difference between good food and nasty food , welp here is my food critique with aunt berthas ! I tried this place 3 times to see if it taste better on certain days and all the times it was terrible . The chicken they gave me was cold , and had a spice taste to it , when they told me the chicken was not spicy. What if I was allergic to spices ? Very bland taste to the skin and the meat of the chicken , no flavor at all !

The fried fish was so bland , that I had to get salt packets from Wawa just to see if it tasted better and it didn’t . Mind you they gave me 3 pieces of fish , and all 3 was super fresh but no flavor ! No crisp to it , very soggy texture to it ! 🤮

The sweet potatoes was too chunky and had no good flavor to them , mind you Boston market sweet potatoes taste better and have more flavor and texture .

The Mac n cheese was way to solid and bland , a bowl of Kraft at home taste 1000x better ! Mind you I do understand that some places bake there’s and some don’t , but this Mac n cheese was so nasty that I let my dogs have it and they didn’t even want it no lie !

And here we are with the cornbread left ! Ugh !!! The 1 thing that I was hoping that would have Maby saved this meal , and it didn’t ! There I was biting into it and thank God I didn’t choke on it , from it being so dry ! I didn’t even get a chance to swallow it due to the fact that when I say it was dry it was dry , it had no type of flavor at all , no moisture to it , no taste at all , go to Boston market they have good cornbread !

The banana pudding was ok but I don’t like slices of bananas in my pudding , I just like wafers in my banana pudding and that’s it !

So after throwing away most of my food that I spent a lot of money on including my girls food to that was overpriced , the same day I went to the doctors to get checked to make sure I didn’t have Covid again from the lack of taste and the very bland flavors that all this food had !

If y’all want to waste yall money on this place along with Corrine’s , cz there food is bland as well , then go ahead throw it away ! I’m trynna save yall from spending yalls hard earned money ! If I knew a better place that sold (soul) good food , or soul food I would had put it here but I have yet to find a good flavorful , well spent place to eat at or pick food up from ! I’m still searching for a good place ! Like I said my reviews may seem a little harsh but I’m being honest , and I like good food , I don’t like places that don’t have good food ! Good luck guys , never again , and I will not be giving this place a 4th time round to eat at ! Heck NO !!! 3 times...

Update 2023; From 2 stars to one. I'm all about 2nd chances. I figured since my last visit. They couldn't go anywhere but up however still a disappointment unfortunately. I won't be patronizing this establishment again.Macaroni and cheese tasteslike macaroni and muthe English just very mushy overcooked macaroni noodles. Turnip greens were gross they were too sweet. I don't understand why people put sugar in their vegetables.Fried. Chicken was just OK? But was not consistent throughout. There was one piece that was seasoned well abd one piece that was not seasoned at all.

Update 12/4/2019 Decided to give Aunt Bertha's The food is just not good at all another shot. Unfortunately my rating remains at 2 stars. The fish was the best thing about my meal. It was fried while I waited so it was hot and fresh. Then again you cant really mess up fried whiting. The ribs were aweful they drown it in a sauce that is nit barbecue sauce but more like tomato sauce. The greens were just ok and the yams were horrible. They were swimming in some kind of watery juice and tasted too tart like they used lemon juice in them. They give generous portions but it wasn't enjoyable at all. Won't be returning.

Not a fan. The food was not fresh. They have the food sitting in heating pans all day. I saw the server take gravy juice and scoop it over dried out old food. Big turn off. I ordered fried pork chops which was cooked fresh while I waited. But it was overcooked and tough. Also very bland flavorless and not seasoned at all. The dessert was just ok. The cake tasted like your basic box mix cake. The staff were...

This review is late, but better late than never. We hired Aunt Berta’s Kitchen to provide offsite, full service catering for my mother’s memorial service/repast in the backyard of my parents’ home in September 2024.

I must say that Aunt Berta and her team were consummate and skilled professionals in handling this event. They even accommodated us when the Delaware location was fully booked for catering on our event date, by providing catering from one of their NJ locations.

They arrived ahead of the scheduled time, were fully prepared, set up, served the meal and cleaned up afterward. The food was attractively presented on the buffet tables and was delicious and plentiful.

We had fried chicken, salmon, turkey wings, black eyed peas, garden rice, cornbread, special cornbread, candied yams, macaroni and cheese and collard greens. The guests raved about the food and many went back for second helpings.

For dessert, there were assorted cake slices arranged on a table and individually packaged in clear containers. This was convenient for the guests to select the cake type they desired, and was a hygienic way for the cakes to be served.

As a bonus, Aunt Berta herself was present to oversee this event. My family and I appreciated her and her team for making a difficult time in our lives a bit easier to handle. We won’t hesitate to use Aunt Berta’s Kitchen for our future...
