Mai Thai Cuisine — Restaurant in Hagåtña Municipality

Mai Thai is one of my favorite restaurants. Here are a couple of reasons why I love this place.

The owner is friendly and can veganize her dishes.

I loved it so much that I had ordered a platter for work and had asked for pick up at 11 am (the time it opens). The owner came in earlier to prepare our dish herself. That is great customer service!

Place is clean. Restrooms are always clean.

Excellent service. The owner always asks us how our dish was. One time, egg accidentally was cooked in our pad see ew, and she had no problem in serving us a new one.

Food is consistently delicious. My favorite vegan dishes are her pad see ew, tofu panang and vegetable spring rolls.

As a person who just spent a year in Chiang Mai, I have been missing authentic Thai food lately. The last Thai place I tried near all the resort hotels was very disappointing, so we didn’t expect much from this place. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the Thai being spoken in the kitchen. Let’s just say we had ourselves a great satisfying meal and intend to return whenever we feel nostalgic about our stint in Chiang Mai.

ในฐานะคนที่เพิ่งใช้เวลาอยู่ที่เชียงใหม่มาหนึ่งปี ช่วงนี้ผมรู้สึกคิดถึงอาหารไทยแท้ๆ มากเลย ร้านอาหารไทยที่ผมลองล่าสุดแถวๆ รีสอร์ททั้งหมดก็ทำให้ผิดหวังมาก เราเลยไม่ได้คาดหวังอะไรมากจากที่นี่ แต่พอได้ยินคนในครัวพูดภาษาไทยก็รู้สึกประทับใจมาก เอาเป็นว่าเราทานอาหารกันอย่างอิ่มอร่อย และตั้งใจว่าจะกลับมาที่นี่อีกแน่นอนทุกครั้งที่คิดถึงช่วงเวลาที่อยู่เชียงใหม่

[Update 2024.09.07] We stopped by again today, hoping for a repeat of the great food. However, it seems there may have been a different chef this time; all our dishes were far too salty (and sweet). I suppose we’ll need to visit once more to figure out which experience is the norm.

Additionally, I now understand why some people have complaints about the service. One of the ladies can be a bit blunt with customers, but she means no harm and treats everyone the same. She may come across as rough one moment, then smile at you the next.

วันนี้พวกเราแวะมาอีกครั้ง หวังว่าจะได้ทานอาหารอร่อยเหมือนเดิม แต่ดูเหมือนว่าวันนี้อาจจะมีเชฟคนอื่น อาหารทุกจานที่สั่งมาทั้งเค็มเกินไป (และหวานเกินไป) คงต้องมาลองอีกครั้งเพื่อดูว่ารสชาติปกติเป็นแบบไหนกันแน่

นอกจากนี้ ผมก็เข้าใจแล้วว่าทำไมบางคนถึงบ่นเรื่องการบริการ หนึ่งในพนักงานผู้หญิงดูเหมือนจะพูดจาตรงๆ กับลูกค้า แต่เธอไม่ได้มีเจตนาไม่ดี และเธอก็ปฏิบัติกับทุกคนอย่างเท่าเทียม บางครั้งอาจจะดูเหมือนเข้มงวด...

The food was good. But the waitress was VERY RUDE. We asked for tea twice and she gave a very Rude attitude telling me and my wife to “just wait” or “I know I know” and after 10 minutes one of the kitchen staff members was able to serve us the tea.
