My wife and I only dined here because our friend raved about the food (mainly the stuffed flounder), so we decided to join him and his wife. Since I’m not a seafood person, I had Veal Saltimbocca and my wife had a Pizza. My wife and I did not find Pirones to be anything special. Our bar is high when it comes to Italian food. We greatly enjoy the excellent Barones Tuscan Grill in Moorestown. We would only be satisfied if our experience at Pirones was equal to or better.
To begin our meal, fresh bread and olive oil & herbs were served. I don’t know what the name of this freshly baked bread is, its shape reminded me kind of like a fat pretzel, only it didn’t have much taste. The olive oil and herbs weren’t as good as Barones because Barones has more herbs in the oil and they have additional shakers (cheese and pepper flakes) at the table that you can use to add more flavor to the oil. Barones freshly baked bread also has much more flavor and they provide two different types of bread.
My Saltimbocca was not as good as what I am used to at Barones and I certainly did not enjoy a couple of large chunks of broccoli. Barones also has a better sauce. As for my wife’s Pizza, it was OK, though she enjoys a couple of our local pizza takeouts much more.
I gave this review 4 stars because the food did arrive hot and in a respectable amount of time. The chef was even courteous enough to come out of the kitchen and inform my wife that the pizza she ordered did not have any cheese on it. He did this kind gesture rather than risk my wife’s dissatisfaction. We thank him for this because my wife didn’t realize it was supposed to be cheese-less, so she was able to ask him to add cheese on top.
So, would we dine at Pirones again? I don’t think so, but our friends may select this place again in the future and so at that time we will have to consider whether to join...
Read moreWe wanted a nice sit down dinner from non-chain or franchised restaurant for once and searched around local restaurants and found familiar name pop up(that closed years ago) so I thought why not give it a try again. My mistake. I just wanted to treat my mom and my bf a nice dinner but what we got was mild service from a staff member and spoiled food. My mom loves lobsters but it's usually bit pricey and not many places are able to cook it the way she likes it so it was little bit of tricky decision to order lobster for her. The food took forever to be out(another table with more people who was seated after we already ordered got their food before us), and the lobster my mom got smlled horrible. Like before even putting it into my mouth, I could smell overwhelming scent of ammonia. My mom is usually not a fussy eater or like to bother restaurant staff when she doesn't like the taste of the food but this is spoiled food she got. When we notified our waitress, she was very polite, she brought it back to the kitchen and nothing else. No acknowledgment, no apology, no explanation. They just took the order out of the bill and acted like nothing happened. When we walked out the door, the kitchen staffs kind of gave us dirty looks, no apology or even acknowledgement what so ever. Never going back to this place ever again. One of the worst...
Read moreI want to first say that I think it’s odd that all of the positive reviews of this resturaunt sound very similar. My family and I came in for a nice dinner on what appeared to be a slow night (only 3 other tables when we sat, one of which finished as we were ordering drinks). Our service was extremely slow and we often had to request things multiple times. We waited about 15 minutes for bread, which was the highlight of the meal as it was delicious. However, one the food started to come, it only got worse. Two people’s meals came out and we waited another 10 minutes to get the other three meals. While waiting for our meals, another tanle started to receive their food from the same waitress. Again, not all of their food was ready at the same time. The food was not good at all. The spaghetti was nearly raw, the sauce was not good, and the boneless wings were very dry and overcooked. Then, when we shared our experience with the waitress she didn’t offer to bring anything else and basically walked away. The owner then came over to only make exscuses for the poor service and subpar food. He was rude and indifferent to our experience in his resturaunt. I usually do not write reviews like this and always give places a second chance, but because of the way he acted I will never return to this establishment and discourage others from...
