Belle Boulangerie — Restaurant in Hallowell

Stopped in on a Thursday morning for the first time and got a Smores Cruffin, Boston Cream Cruffin, and a Pain au Chocolate. As I'm writing this writing this we haven't eaten the chocolate croissant yet, but I didn't want to forget to write a review. The cruffins were AMAZING. The pastry shell was crunchy and flaky and soft all at the same time. And the pastry cream, especially in the Smores cruffin, was so lovely I wish I just had it in a bowl. What a treat to have locally....

Delicious baked goods. However, the prices are insane. 8 dollars minimum for a small pastry or loaf of bread. That is twice what the average person in central Maine would expect to pay. I understand that folks in Hallowell must have a lot of money but it is just so painful for the rest of us to buy goods at this bakery. I would love to support them but it is just too much. Didn’t plan on coming here. Couldn’t walk by without going in…. Then boom Went in and knew I could not leave without a treat.

We opted for the freshly baked ham and cheese croissants they were still hot! They were insanely buttery. I think the bake on the croissants is a bit light and could be in the oven a bit longer.

The shop is little, cute and tidy.
