Update: Within the hour I posted my review a lady contacted me, who I'm assuming is the owner or manager and she was very apologetic and wants us to come back soon. When a owner/manager reaches out to you, you know they care about their customers and customer service. Very professional and a kind gesture and it shows you how they value all their customers. You definitely don't see that often. She was super sweet and we will definitely be back.
To start off, the food is excellent. I had the fish tacos with french fries. The tacos are super messy, but delicious. Tons of spice in it, if you like spice I definitely recommend it. Ordered fried lasagna bites, really tasty, only a hint of it being lasagna but still really good. My husband had fish and chips, the fish was really flaky and filling. Really good flavor. French fries were good also. I ordered the alcohol drink markers manhattan, trust me when I say don't order that, it's terrible and I chugged it down as fast as I could only because I paid for it. You get only one black cherry and that's gross too.
Now on to the bad. Out of respect I'll leave the name of the waitress out, and while she was reasonably nice, she lacked attentiveness and observation, never checked back to ask how the food was until the end, she didn't even bring the food to the table. Another girl who is a young blonde who was new brought out our food and she was a pleasure, asked us if we needed anything else and was exceptionally polite. I believe her name is Haiden. Just because the waitress herself wasn't very attentive doesn't mean she was bad at her job but she needs to make sure her tables are all set and not just dissappear most of the service. My goal isn't to get anyone in trouble which is why I didn't include her name but if others followed Haiden's observation with the customers service in general would be even better.
The bathroom was exceptionally clean and huge, plenty of space to move around, a cabinet you can use to put your phone on it or whatever. The door to the bathroom has cool decor. The bar itself has plenty of tables and seating, but we sat in the dining room, plenty of tables everywhere. They have tables outside to eat as well. They have two tv's in the bar. Parking is kinda crazy. It's on the street parking but you can also park out back. Free...
Read moreOct. 15, 2021 - Ever watch the tv show called “Cheers”? I felt like everyone knows your name at Hallowell’s . . . “CHEERS”! Owners Chris Vallee, Steve LaChance, and Larry Hunter’s Quarry Tap Room has that friendly vibe! I walked around taking photos for my review, a blue eyed young lady at the bar said, “ You can take my photo”! SURE!
Our party of 4 sat outside facing Hallowell’s main street. Our server Sarah handed us the lengthy beer list. Wow, over 24 beers on tap, many were local Maine Brewing companies:
Maine Beers at Quarry Tap Room!
*Shipyard *Baxter Brewing *Bangor Beer Co. *Goodfire Brewing *Definitive Brewing *Cushnoc Brewing *Fore River Brewing *Bigelow Brewing *Maine Beer Co. *Lone Pine Brewing *Allagash Brewing
Quarry’s pub food is good, with a few standouts! I’ve popped in several times . . .their chicken wings were very good my 1st time 3 years ago, but OK last year. My wife liked her Reuben sandwich in 2019. I really enjoyed the beer batter fried haddock sandwich in 2020. There are 4 salads on the menu . . . I really liked their Quarry Salad with mixed greens, red onion, bell peppers, cucumbers, dried cranberries, and spiced nuts!
After walking Hallowell’s store front lined main street , relax for some suds, musical sounds, and soothing food ! There’s two inside dining rooms, and two outdoor seating areas. Check out the art work on the walls, enjoy one or more Maine beer selections, while looking out over the Kennebec River! Loads of history & culture abound in Hallowell! I rate this a solid 4.75 experience! My only suggestion, please bring back the “ Flight” . . . A sample of 4 to 8 beers ? ( please COVID mask up employees, for safety reasons)
Good time at a friendly bar, “ Where Everyone Knows Your Name” at The...
Read moreThis place has lots of potential to be the best eatery of inland Maine, but lots of little things add up to an overall disappointment.
My family went during lunch time on Labor Day so I didn't mind waiting 45min to get and outdoor table. When we were finally seated, it took a little patience for drinkts to eventually get delivered, but luckily none of us were starving or else the 30min it took for our food to be served would have been crippling.
Unfortunately, after easily over an hour of waiting, a simple plate of chicken tenders and fries was one minute away from being burnt. I'm no food snob, but expecting golden brown tenders is not a high bar to clear. Mine were brownish black and the batter had absolutely no seasoning so the oil that it was bathing in was the only flavor available outside the sauce I could dip in.
The fries they came with, which were their own separate menu item described as "sprinkled with salt and pepper" simply were not. Again, no seasoning at all. Just cut potatoes that tasted like the oil they were made in.
The saving grace was the cole slaw and aoili that gave the plate a flavor that wasn't...oil.
All in all, I technically could have gotten tastier chicken and fries from McDonalds and spent 1/2 the price.
My waitress was attentive and kind, but the chef may have been silently protesting on Labor Day which I totally support because I would've rather the place been closed than have had such a bummer of...
