5/5 will be back once a week. I had the spicy chicken dish which I asked for hot and it was hot. 7/10 on the heat. Ask them for traditional hot if you want it as hot as they staff would eat it. Food took about 10-15 mins to prepare which made me happy knowing it was made so fresh. My buddy had the butter chicken and loved it. We both had some naan as well. All the staff were friendly and kind and asked many questions to ensure our order was correct. Even though my boy and I are familiar with the cuisine, you could be a total newbie and they could guide you thru the process. Please come eat here and expand your palate. My friend suggested the lab if that’s your thing. I don’t eat lamb but apparently it’s to die for here and the run out quickly. I come from the Boston/Providence area and high quality Pakistani/Indian food isn’t hard to come by down there. Desi in Hallowell is among the best and most flavorful I’ve ever had!!

Photo is the updated menu as of Jan 03, 2023. Visited Desi Kitchen last night for takeaway dinner. We ordered the fish curry, lamb karahi, chicken curry, and palak paneer. They definitely make it hot when you ask for hot, the chicken was borderline hiccup inducing (love that). Their rice is light and colorful, the curries are tasty, although I would probably not order the fish curry (mild) again. It needs heat. Overall this is a good place, will definitely go back. The one weakness was the naan. While very pretty, by the time we ate it it had hardened up a bit. Microwaving helped. For the 3 curries + palak paneer, 2 naan with rice included, and one kneer, the bill was about $100 including a small tip for takeaway.

The rice was fresh bright and colorful and Seasoned well. The aroma in the restaurant was heavenly. It takes a deep nose dive from there. The old men who run the place are rude. They serve everything on paper or plastic. Felt like a grade school cafeteria. I orderd butter chicken and Garlic Naan bread. The chicken was tough . It should be called sahara chicken. Because its so dry it brings to mind endless sand dunes. The bread was really no different. The flavor of everything was adaquite but not up to the promise made by the smells when you walk in. The price ? Around 30.00 a meal to start. I wish them well but i will never return

This is a relatively new restaurant in Hallowell. The waitress was new so service was not the best but its understandable. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala which was really good. Compared to other Indian restaurants, it was a tad more spicy but that was fine by me. My wife ordered Palak Paneer which is her favorite indian food, but this dish was not that good. We also ordered the garlic naan bread and again, it was very bland tasting, would not get it again. They dont have the 3 indian dipping sauces/condiments (green mint etc) which is too bad, it would definitely help the naan bread. The masala tea we ordered was also not as good compared to other places we've been, but everyone has different tastes. The basmati rice and the portion size were good which was a plus. We will give this restaurant another chance, but will try other dishes and skip the naan bread...

The food was amazing. It was served to us in to go boxes and we were allowed to sit inside and eat. The portions were great and the flavor incredible. Many of the dishes on the menu were no longer available which is discouraging and customers should be notified before placing an order. Three stars taken away because the man who took our order was very gruff and unfriendly- not mean, just rough around the edges. All of the tables had not been cleaned either. The main reason for the 3 stars is because the bathroom was disgusting. As well as just being extremely dirty and grimy, urine and fecal stains were on the toilet and floor, and pubic hairs also. I wish we saw the bathroom before we ate.... makes me wonder what the kitchen looks like and how dirty the rest of...
