Sunrise Cafe — Restaurant in Hallstead

Cute place with great people. Might be better for breakfast, but we had lunch. As far as the food goes, I think basically any other place would have been better. We are fine with McDonald's, Denny's, Friendly's etc. but wanted something a bit different. We regret it now because it took a long time and the food was so extremely ordinary (think going to the grocery store and cooking up a meat patty, putting a cold slice of Kraft American cheese on top a little while after it was cooked, and then putting it on the cheapest cold bun available). We don't understand the glowing reviews, but we have eaten in a lot of incredible places (including at our own house). The person who said it was like eating at Grandma's house was exactly right, if Grandma had very little money, only worked with a small number of store bought ingredients, and wasn't an imaginative cook. I would never serve food like this at my house. The place is cute and the people are so nice, so I feel terrible saying this, but there have to be other people like me out there who have experienced more variety in food and would not enjoy their visit here. The Sunrise cafe is a very clean and respectful place to have breakfast or lunch the food is delicious the people are great lot of friendly people go there it is a wonderful place to have breakfast or lunch I believe the atmosphere there is great simply because the owners are great people they have been blessed with this business and their blessing us all with their great food and dining in or take outs like I said the food is delicious you can't beat the prices anywhere it's even good for someone on a gluten-free diet a few things you cannot have but most of them you can the truth. Sonia is a great cook so are the others that do the cooking there not very nice people and great Christians as well very friendly you couldn't find better people the Lord has blessed us with this tiny restaurant it is a wonderful place to visit...

I have been best friends with the owner since we were in school together and I absolutely love her! I am so proud of her and what she has been able to accomplish with her diner! My only regret is I did not come sooner! Her food is the best in the area and the atmosphere inside the restaurant is so warm and welcoming! I highly recommend coming here! I know I'll be back!! Update: I have to say I will come almost every Sunday religiously when I am not out of town! This is truly the best little hidden gem in our county when it comes time for food!!
