Tried Mikro for the first time. It's right next to the bike riding-running trail in Hamden. It's wooded all along the far side of the trail. A quiet spot, except for... noise from inside and loud customers outside! A major problem is, there is nothing but glass, hard floor and hard roof on three sides. We asked to move once because three people behind us were so loud we couldn't think. It was 20 minutes after they opened (at noon) so I don't think it was alcohol related, but they were really excited and all needing to talk loudly. Then, in our new spot, a family parked behind us and the father and daughter talked the whole time. I even had my hearing aids turned down. We could also hear the music coming from inside the whole time. Expect LOUD when they get busy! I'll get to the good food in due time, but Mikro has other issues. The flies were bad. As I mentioned, they are next to woods. I can only imagine what it's like in the evening. They are only open for lunch on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Perhaps over 50% of the outdoor seating is shaded, the rest is not. The food was great for the most part. The General Tso's Fried Cauliflower lived up to its reputation. Possibly a little heavy-handed with the sweet sauce. The Mussels were delicious, especially the broth and the excellent toasted bread. The seared tuna tostadas were good, but the tuna, though seared, was very cold. That is just wrong. It needs to be warmer to have lots of flavor. Good beers and wine are plentiful, but really good scotches are virtually nonexistent. For their big bar and all their liquor, they really could do better than one 12 year old Highland scotch. The only Islay Scotch they had was super-peaty Laphroaig. All together, it was a good experience and I want to go back because the waiter said they are known for their burgers. Prices were fine. Service...

I like this place. It's on the Canal Trail. The decor is awesome. The food is good and unique. Maybe a little overpriced but not terribly. Service is a whole other issue. I've been here three times. Twice I've had mediocre service. But this last visit resulted in an experience that I won't forget any time soon. I was sitting at a high top table with 5 other friends out for a friend's birthday. The table had two rounds of drinks. At one point our table got a little loud, but nothing too crazy. A manager comes over to our table and says that both me and my friend cut off. We were confused, shocked, and frankly annoyed. When we asked for an explanation of why we're not going to be served anymore drinks, the manager said it was his discretion and that he doesn't need to explain. I said if we were being too loud than we apologize, but it's not necessary to cut us off. He said once he's made his decision he doesn't reverse it. It felt like he was on a power trip and didn't want to consider reason. He knew that both myself and my friend were not intoxicated which makes it more frustrating. I worked at a bar for 8 years. I understand the importance of bartenders cutting off patrons, especially if they have had too much. This wasn't the case and the manager/bartender knew it. The only thing this accomplished was ruining our night and my friend's birthday. I wish I could say that this is a fluke thing, but if this is the approach of the managerial staff take with it's patrons, than I don't know how I could recommend this place. I'd like to say that I'd give this bar another chance but this experience has really left a bad taste...

Visited Saturday 4/17/21. Within minutes of getting to the brewery/restaurant I was seated at the back enclosed patio tucked away in a corner. So far so good. Right? Then comes a waitress (heavy set young lady) and takes the orders of the two tables next to mine, doesn't acknowledged our presence and walk's away. Comes back the waitress with water and utensils for the ladies at the two tables next to our table and again ignores our presence and walks away. Comes again the waitress with the ordered cocktails for the ladies at the two tables next to mine and again ignores my presence at the table and walks away. Later comes again the waitress and serves the ladies their ordered food and again totally ignores our presence at the table next to the two tables she just got done serving and walks away. By then 20 or 30 minutes passes by and no water, no utensils and no order taken yet. Got tired of being invisible after 30 minutes or so I finally had to get up from my table and go to the hostess and question as to why the waitress that was attending the area I was seated in was ignoring my presence and not taking my order. Thanks to a nice gentlemen waiter that heard my complaint, took it upon himself to help me out and take my order. Mind you that, easy, a good 30 minutes went by sitting there before I had to get up and seek out someone that would take my order. Not a pleasant experience sitting there and absolutely being ignored by this waitress. And to ad insult to injury on my way out she had the audacity to wish me that my experience/visit was a good one. Are you kidding me? Seriously? After ignoring me...

I mistakenly worked for this restaurant for multiple weeks in July to help out when I heard the were short staffed due to covid. It wasn't a good fit for me due to my other job and school. I still have yet been paid in full, and so has multiple others. This is the kind of trash Hamden allows to do business within the town. Mike Farber also owns TexiKo,just a few blocks away from Mikro, and I have no doubt he treats them employees equally like servants. It's absolutely ridiculous that I have to open an investigation with the Labor Board to get fully paid. This isn't the type of trashy business this state needs. Every dollar spent in one of his establishments is helping Mike Farber spread cancer through the hard working community. Stay away and help clean up the bulk trash that litters Whitney Ave. As you can see in the seven photos I've posted, all labeled in numerical order, that I'm not exaggerating in the least bit. I will be putting in multiple complaints and trying to get both town and state to step in to permanently eliminate the problem.

I visited their new location for the first time last night and was pleasantly surprised. Lots more room than their last location. It can still be very noisy, but there is an outdoor seating area that’s adjacent to the Hamden-Cheshire trail and this could be a quieter option. The great selection of draft beers remains the same and are priced accordingly and served in the appropriate glassware. The food menu is “eclectic” and not your average pub fare. My friends and I had a stuffed clams app that was pretty good. We also had a burger with fries ($17, expensive) and a Cajun shrimp sandwich which my friend really liked a lot. 3 people, 6 beers an app and 3 sandwiches...$125! So, overall, a really good place to hang with some friends and enjoy some good beers in a nice atmosphere. But, I’d like to see the kitchen offer a broader selection of menu items that would appeal to more dining guests. The service was attentive and there was plenty of parking. I would return for beers only.
