Golden Dawn Diner — Restaurant in Hamilton Township

I moved away a few years ago and came back to NJ to visit family and friends. This was the first spot I came and wow, a completely different environment now. What a devastating loss for the diner losing Chris & Doc. Whoever runs this place now brings anything but a personable touch. Cold, not as friendly or a family feeling environment anymore. If it wasn't for MARY AT THE FRONT especially, Michelle and Norma, I wouldn't have come back. To the new owners: great job ruining this place!!!! You used to have to have a reservation whenever you'd want to come here. Always a massive line, I was extremely shocked when I was able to sit right down so fast. Great job chasing away the family feel, friendliness, social aspect with the staff and berating those who stuck around, actually DOING THEIR JOBS, who only stayed because they love the clientele (not the new clientele, the people you're chasing away) and are passionate about what they do. Way to ruin what true Hamiltonians have been used to for the last 30+ years. Leave your negative feelings and behavior wherever it is you came from, that is NOT how this area or people are. If it weren't for Mary & Michelle, I'd never waste the slightest bit of my limited time here in Hamilton coming to an establishment I once loved that is now being ruined by you people. I'd give you zero stars if I could and an INFINITE amount of stars to Mary, Michelle and Norma. Doc & Chris, I am truly sorry these new people ruined...

The Golden Dawn Diner is a Hamilton, New Jersey staple. Not at all unlike America and apple pie, the Golden Dawn Diner has been a go-to for this huge West-central NJ community for longer than I've been an adult. When you want to get a freshly cooked meal from a hospitable host, The Golden Dawn Diner checks that very box!

I dine here for breakfast rather routinely with Friends. Typically, a charming and wildly friendly woman named Kansas serves us from the counter.

She goes out of her way to ensure our food, tea, juice and coffee are always fresh, and our meals exactly as we requested. Kansas even cleans our coffee cups with scolding hot water before she pours our coffee, only to ensure our mugs are as clean as can be. I have visited this diner for over 20 years now, and I'm hard-pressed to think of a single bad experience. The hospitality from the moment you're greeted, to the moment your check is paid and you're heading out, is exemplary.

As I said, I normally have breakfast at The Golden Dawn Diner, so I don't think I'm qualified to comment a great deal on their menu. I can, however, comment greatly on their breakfast options, which for me always include items like omelets, eggs prepared over-medium, and typical addons like toast, fruit, bacon. And it's always delicious, always presented beautifully and tastes wonderful. Today the wife and I went to the neighborhood diner, the Golden Dawn Diner. Got there and people were sitting in the waiting area when we gave our name to be put on the waiting list and we were told a 10-15 minute wait which is not bad. While sitting there 15 minutes several other couples came in after us and put their names on the waiting list. One couple had a baby with them and the other couple had a young child who would scream at times but that's ok kids will be kids. The wife went in to the hostess to see how many people were in front of us on the list and was told one other couple and then us. As we sat there the couple with the baby was called before us. Next the mother of the young child went in and spoke with the hostess, not able to hear what she said, but guessed she told them the child had a problem and had to eat. They then called that couple into the restaurant to be seated. At this point the hostess and management were pretty poor for writing a list as people came in and then disregard that list. At this point we are very upset with the owner who stuck his head out the door to call the couple with the child and when the wife spoke about the incident it appeared he didn't really care. I normally don't write about experiences but this is just unacceptable to other people who plan on spending their hard own money in their establishment. For this we don't for see going back to this place anytime soon...
