If you like warm beer and waiting in line, then this is the place.
It’s disappointing because after Buy Rite took over it was head and shoulders superior to Cedar Gardens (which was a dump with empty shelves) and they were giving Canal’s a run for their money. But, BUT, the last four times I was there I unwittingly brought home a warm 30-pack. FOUR TIMES!!! IN A ROW!! Previously it was hit or miss whether or not you grabbed a warm case or not. But, four times in a row is a bit excessive.
As far as the lines go, the best way to compare it is it’s the Walmart of liquor stores. There will be 3 people behind the registers, and another 3 or 4 people walking around the store, and no matter how long the line gets, it’ll just be that one register open. The other 6 or 7 employees just look at the line like they’re not sure what to do. And even though I haven’t seen her my last couple visits, forget about getting out of there quickly if the older red headed lady is working. The line could be 10 deep and she has no sense of urgency. She’ll chat, bag garbage or just plain be slow. Love the lady, nice lady, but she’s SLOW!
As far as the beer/wine/liquor selection goes, FIVE STARS. Customer service, two stars. Coldness of domestic beers, negative five stars. That’s how I came to the 2 stars. Fix the cold beer and check out situation and I’ll change it to 5 stars.
Now I’ll sit back and enjoy my lukewarm...
Read moreMy wife and I went here tonight to use a gift card we received. We got in line to purchase a bottle of whiskey. My wife is 30 and I am 38. Because I wasn't driving and didn't have my wallet, I didn't think it would be a problem since she had hers and was paying, and othwr people had their children with them in thr store without issue. We got to the register, and the cashier refused to sell to her because I didn't have my license (I definitely don't look under 21, and we've gone here other times when only one of us had our wallet without issue). He ran the purchase up and used our gift card, and assured us it didn't go through when he canceled the transaction. She dropped me off at home (we live 2 minutes away) and went back to buy the whiskey. At that point, I didn't feel like going back out. She went back in, and they refused to sell it to her again, even though she told him I was at home. He said he couldn't take her word for it. I get it's his job, but this is extremely excessive since I wasn't even with her the second time. We checked the balance of the gift card, and it is now at zero. So not only are we out $30, but it was a huge inconvenience, and the cashier is incompetent and couldn't even check properly to make sure the funds remained on the gift card. If I could give this store zero stars, I would. We won't...
Read moreI came into this store today to spend $200+ dollars and one staff member, an older woman, was extremely hostile. She watched me and three of my friends walk into the store and watched us the entire time. There was a representative from Sourland Mountain Spirits in the back and we spent some time with her learning about the brand. When we went to check out she demanded to see everyone’s ID. I had left mine in the car and she refused to check out until I went and got it. I’m 28 years old. When I came back inside with my ID she was gone and so I handed it to the cashier who was at the register. The older woman ran back and snatched my ID from her and proceeded to study it back and forth as if it was fake. This woman racially profiled me and my group and I am completely disgusted with her behavior. I’m not sure if she was drunk or not but I did see her taking shots with the rep from Sourland Mountain Spirits. Either way her behavior was out of line and inappropriate. Idk if this is normal behavior in this store but she made everyone in my group uncomfortable.
To be clear since my point has been missed completely. My issue is not with being carded. My issue is the hostility I was met with and the behavior of the older woman. If this is behavior is condoned then that is very good to know for...
