public notice. To start, I called and asked to speak with the owner and was never called back. I talked to the manager there and he said he would send my voicemail to the owner. However, they could have avoided this review by simply answering some simple questions I had as a customer and a previous individual in the food industry for over 10 years. Not only have I worked in many areas, but I know just about everything they would need to know to basically screw everyone over on prices. Here we go. Their Burrito California on one picture of it let’s me load it, is the worst “big” burrito they have with everything?? I highly doubt it. I can stuff and roll a better burrito and I only have full use of one arm!!! Not only that, no beans. Weak, non toasted tortilla. Save your money people. You can get a HUGE burrito in Demotte for $10. I paid $14 for this burrito. Honestly. This burrito you can get in Chicago for cheaper and bigger and on door dash. Their cheesecake burrito is in fact, not a burrito. It’s 2 cheesecake appetizers you can get from any food company, cheap or expensive. Hell. You can buy the same thing at GFS and sprinkle some cinnamon on it and call it a day. The sauces came out of a bottle and were bland. Even the chocolate. I can go on all day about how they’re overcharging for food because of their location. Not only that. Why are the customers covering the cost for all your tvs, music, paintings and your digital ordering machine where you demand no less than a 20% tip? Mind you, I left the 20% on a to go order and I didn’t have to. Also, your to go boxes are too expensive. Go greener or not at all at this point. Wake up people!!! They just think we’re stupid Americans that will pay for some authenticity. Some orage paint and some cool paintings with loud music will not make me come back. So. I hope you guys see this because it could’ve been avoided. So the $26.99 that I paid for this garbage food should probably come back my way. Have a great day and if you want a list of some REAL Mexican food, you...
Read moreThe food is consistent and the prices are reasonable considering the unnecessary economic damage done by the last administration. The service was great and the atmosphere is spot on. The dining room was clean, our table was clean. It's obvious they make their own tortilla chips, which are fresh and very good. The salsa is delicious, with only a slight kick, not horrendously spicy but, could use a bit less cilantro, as it almost overpowers the other flavors of the salsa.
I had the Molcajete. I love the Molcajete. I always order the Molcajete because it's this wonderful blend of steak and shrimp with rice and beans and a bit of cheese. It comes with this giant pepper that scares me because it looks hot as hell but, I'll have to get brave the next time I go there and see exactly what it is. The dish itself is plated well... Actually, that's an understatement. THEY SERVE IT TO YOU IN A FRIGGIN CRUCIBLE THAT LOOKS LIKE THE AZTECS MADE IT THEMSELVES AND IT MAKES YOU FEEL LIKE A GOD WHEN IT'S PUT IN FRONT OF YOU! ORDER ONE! They're pricey, about $25-30 I think but, DUUUUUDE.... I'm telling ya, I've never "experienced" food until El Salto put this in front of my face. I've never ordered a dish that invoked feeling until I ordered this dish. I don't even look at anything else on the menu. I can get a burrito, sopes or a torta anywhere but, you can only get the Molcajete at El Salto.
Friggin medieval times doesn't even serve a dish like this and they put dudes sword fighting and jousting in...
Read moreEL SALTO Mexican Restaurant is new to Cedar Lake, IN located on Wicker Ave. I had the opportunity of stopping in & dining on a Friday late afternoon & this restaurant was filling up quickly. It is set on the end of a strip mall & convenient to access. The decor was whimsical & colorful with “Day of the Dead” metal sculptures throughout. The bar well stocked with liquors, wine as well as bottled beers & tap imports/exports. My friend & I were seated promptly & the staff was very accommodating & friendly. The restaurant itself was clean & inviting. My order was 3 tacos & my friend ordered the same. I also had a small guacamole & a sour cream. Our drinks were 1 beer & a cola. It is worth mentioning the tacos were “very delicious” although come with cheese & lettuce….(tomatoes & toppings are add-ons). Our bill was $53.00 ..with tip put us over $60. I found this venue to be on the higher end of the Mexican cuisine restaurants I have frequented. As I was leaving this venue was filling quickly & I wish them the very best. I however, am reluctant to the price point. I hope this review is...
