I was disappointed with our dinner experience at Sushiya, especially since several people had recommended it. The first thing I noticed is that it's not very clean or orderly in the restaurant. Behind the front desk is a lot of clutter, things piled up around the kitchen half-walls, and no regard for ambiance. The decor gives cafeteria vibes and that's not expected from the outside appearance or the fact that this restaurant is in the heart of upscale Hanover, NH. My first impression was, "oh no, this is a little sketchy". There are no mixed drinks on the menu and that was the next big letdown - only beer, wine, sake, soda. Our server was good, not great. Very kind but didn't check back in other than breezing by quickly 1-2 times. She didn't offer drink refills, which after finishing my wine in the first 15 minutes, would've been nice. One thing we enjoyed were these little bowls of appetizers they surprised us with - one for each person at the table but for us to all share. There was a sprout dish, a broccoli, a cucumber, and a potato. They all had mystery sauce or seasonings or heat. It would've been nice to know what was in them since we didn't order them. It was kind of a guessing game which was somewhat fun but also felt a little risky pending people's food preferences or dietary restrictions. We eat at a lot of Asian restaurants across New England and beyond, and love sushi, but this sushi was just mid - the plating was okay, the flavors were standard, and nothing really popped out to make us...
Read moreThis is the best sushi restaurant in the area by far. The fish and all of the food in general is very fresh and the staff is always so kind and welcoming. They have been very accommodating since the pandemic. Some people may say the prices are “high” but I find that to be an unfair statement, as it is sushi and you’re paying for quality so I find the prices to be very fair and affordable. I lived in south Florida for 18 years where sushi was actually expensive and the fish wasn’t fresh at all so take my word for it, I know what I’m taking about. My husband gets the Maki Combo here, which is 18 pieces of sushi for $14.95. We like to add cream cheese to the rolls. To me, this is a very fair price I’m not sure how some find this place to be so “pricey”, there are affordable items on the menu. The special rolls are higher in price because they are much larger and have more toppings and whatnot. I always enjoy eating here and have never been disappointed. They even gave my family a $40 gift card once for dining in their restaurant around Christmas time. When they have dine-in seating they offer small appetizers for free (tempura sweet potatoes, cucumber salad, etc.). A must try! Such amazing staff and...
Read moreOrdered birthday dinner for my 11 year old through Grubhub. It arrived 1 hour late and most of the order was left at the restaurant. Trying to make the most of it for my daughter I said let’s go to the restaurant to eat instead. I called ahead and spoke with a manager about the situation. He was unhelpful and unempathetic. He wouldn’t complete our messed up meal but told us he couldn’t help and we would have to wait to be seated. They also have a policy the take out orders cannot be eaten in the restaurant! I spent an hour arguing with Grubhub costumer service about a refund which they refused to do. We sat at the restaurant and ordered new food as our order was now 2 hours old. I see an email for a refund for the tip but not the meal. I will probably need to call again and waste more time to get my money back. Awful experience on my child’s birthday. I will never do it again and will warn others not to use Grubhub in our area. I am disappointed with restaurant manager too but they can have empathy for him that it was busy. Too bad he could not have had empathy for me that I was trying to do something special for my...
