Are these people eating at the same restaurant that I ate at? It's huge and well decorated but it has more of a gymnasium kind of vibe than a restaurant vibe. Lots of little kids running around unattended. TVs in every corner like it's a sports bar and not a Mexican restaurant. Prices are much higher than your typical Mexican restaurant and the menu is completely boilerplate, lacking in originality. The salsa you get is probably the worst most boring industrial stuff that came out of a bag that I've ever had. It's really disappointing. How difficult is it to sprinkle a little bit of cumin on the salsa?
Everything I tried was bland and boring. Nothing tasted fresh, like it all came out of a bag in the fridge or a can. I would be really surprised if even a single thing on the menu is actually made in house. I could forgive this if the prices were half what they're charging but it's almost feels predatory, and maybe it is because maybe this is the only Mexican place in harahan? In any case the overwhelming number of positive reviews makes me question legitimacy of Google reviews as well as the people of harahan and their ability to identify what is it isn't good food.
Maybe I'm being a bit too harsh here though, judging this place by the standards of a moderately priced below average Mexican restaurant when I should be reviewing it as a combo sports bar, child daycare Center that just happens to serve overpriced institutional Mexican food?
Seriously, if you gave this place five stars and don't think the words spam and gourmet should be used in the same sentence,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe food is good and comes out the kitchen quicker than the average Mexican restaurant. Now I don't know if it comes out quicker because they have a large staff in the kitchen, or they have most of the food prepared already and zap it in a microwave oven. I have been here 4 times. 2 times had great service and 2 times after the food came the server never checked on me again until he or she brought the bill. Last night I was looking around for my server wanting to get a refill on my tea , and another server stopped at the table and was nice enough to get it for me. My server was at end if bar talking to people for about 5 minutes or so. The price may be a little higher than most Mexican restaurants in the area. The restaurant dining room is large and the also have a outside dining area that has a nice size to it. I'm sure I'll be back because it is close to home, but will be careful who is my server. Question to whoever reads this, When server does not do a fair to great job do you still tip at 18 to 20 % of the bill? Last night I left only a 10% tip. But it was not because I'm cheap, it's because of the...

Went to this place for dinner. Sat at the bar. Ordered two tacos, a la cart. Food came out and both of my tacos were served on a plate. It looked good. However when I picked one up I realized that I was served ground beef, lettuce, tomato, and cheese, covered by half a taco shell. I reached for the other one and same thing. So essentially, I was served one shell for 2 tacos. I informed the bar tender and she brought me out 2 full empty shells. In the process of building my tacos, a roach carrying a sack, on its back, crawled across the bar, directly where I was sitting. I informed the bartender who immediately went to management. She returned to tell me that, "they had sprayed and so i couldn't get any compensation because it was only one roach."
Adiós para siempre.
Update! 45 minutes from posting this review.
Stopped at Winn Dixie after leaving and picked up some ground beef, shredded cheese, and trusty ol El Paso taco kit....
