Years have passed, and this dining experience still stands out as the worst in my entire life.
Our server was friendly but slow. There were five of us eating, and we all were ready to order entrees before the waitress arrived to take our drink orders. Still, we were at Shimmy Shack for 2.5 hours. The food came out cold, 40 minutes after we ordered. yet no one complained. However, when we got our bills, we were shocked. The waitress had misquoted prices. I asked if a certain beer was a domestic (because the menu said that domestics were about $3). At the end of my meal, she tells me that of course Rolling Rock is a domestic, but its a special domestic that is premium priced (really, 4.50 for a bottle of rolling rock?). Also, I ordered a side entree, the price on my tab significantly more ($3-4) than listed on the menu. When I showed her this, she refused to change my price by walking away and ignoring me. Another friend experienced a similar situation with his bill. However, another had prices that were randomly correct. It seemed that their pricing was arbitrarily and randomly matched to the menu. Finally, we found out as we were closing out that paying with a card adds an extra dollar to every bill. If this policy was posted anywhere in the restaurant, it was inconspicuous. I know that it was NOT posted anywhere on the menu. Overall, I spent 18 dollars on two rolling rocks and a small order of cold french fries and was treated poorly by management. As I said, I have worked in restaurants, I know how rude customers can be. I went out of my way to be polite despite my frustration. We were still treated like our questions were ridiculous. When I called the next day to speak to the manager, she told me that the waitress had indeed quoted me the wrong prices because she was new and inexperienced. She offered no apology, and told me it was my responsibility to make sure that the menu prices were correct (which was what I thought I had done by asking the server). She told me she would call me back later that day, which of course she did not ever intend to do. I decided to never dine there again, nor let any of my...
Read moreI used to like eating at Shimmy Shake. I always order the hamburger. At other restaurants I order my burger like I order my steak medium rare. Upon ordering it at Shimmy Shack I received it raw. Instead of complaining about it I stopped eating it and paid for it anyway. I have been there several times since and previouly was a regular customer. After that experienced I made it a point to order my burger medium in hopes of not encountering that same problem. I don't eat there during what is considered a restaurant's busiest time, therefore my burger never comes out right away and is always hot. This evening of 4/29/2019 I visited there and of course ordered my usual, which is not just a hamburger but one that is on the bun plain. This time it was around the 6pm hour. I received it right away. It was cold in temper and despite trying to eat it anyway, the fact still remains that not only was the burger cold but the l fries were cold also. I decided that I was going to talk to the restaurant employee about it. As a loyal customer I would have thought I would have gotten a better response. Instead the owner approached me and told me she didn't know what to do. Could she perhaps make me a smaller Burger? I told her that was fine. Immediately afterwards I tried to get the attention of the poor waiter who was new to the restaurant. After getting his attention I told him I would rather not have the new order but would pay the bill anyway. The owner who acknowledged they knew I was a regular customer was very ugly to me. At the end of the day I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. I gave this restaurant a 2 only on behalf of the employees involved as they tried to make it right despite the owner the owner who could not have been more ugly...
Read moreI ordered the blacked catfish & had the outstanding Bloody Mary while I waited. I must say, The chef knocked it out of the park!! After a short time my meal arrived so visually pleasing i almost didnt want to eat it, however, with the aroma of perfectly cooked catfish, fresh crisp vegetables, & a perfect portioned bed of rice... I couldn't resist! The service was comparable to being served by your mother after a long time away; friendly, nice small talk with pleasant get to know you as a person attitude. This establishment has a cozy indoor with several tables as well as many seats at the bar. One step out the side doors you'll find a quaint tree shaded patio with several tables to enjoy the outside breeze & people watch. I highly recommend for any 1st timers to visit at least once. As a 20 year old establishment, I would like to see more patrons to frequent & call this their "home". Let's bring this place some booming business to ensure it's enduring life in this...
