NO CONCHAS!!! The only thing my mom wanted was conchas and there were none when I got there, perhaps too late. Next time I might try calling. Their other sweet bread is absolutely delicious and they still had lots to choose from! They make the best marranitos and empanadas. Checking out is kinda slow so give yourself plenty of time. I've been here about 5x and there has always been a small crowd to long lines. Not super cheerful service, but not rude either just busy and constantly multi tasking with each customer. If its your first time there, they have plastic gloves on a table to the right, infront of their checkout. Put one on and use that to grab the bread. The bags are in shelves just below the sweet bread. They also have tamales, but I prefer the ones my neighbor makes, and they have other hot meats to go, but they tend to run out so call before hand. Read moreMy favorite place for donuts! There are other places for donuts in town and I've tried them all! For me, this is the best in town! I even mail their pig shaped cookies up to Minnesota for my parents because they like them so much. When my parents come to visit they special order 2 to 3 dozen to take home. I do like their breakfast tacos, for a while they weren't to good but something changed in the kitchen and they are fresh again. I never liked potato and eggs, this is the only place I like them because they use more egg than potato, delicious! Keep up the good work Alejandro's! Update: 9/3/24 The breakfast tacos and tortillas are not the same anymore. There must be a new person in the kitchen and the taste of the Breakfast tacos...
Read moreSo we've been looking for a new Barbacoa joint and I decided to try Alejandro's. Backstory: I love Del Albas in San Benito due to the fresh Lengua. Since we moved we haven't had Barbacoa in 4 months.
Comparing both Barbacoas, Alejandors is drier and not as tasteful. I ordered the Especial and Lengua. The Lengua was SUPER dry and I had to remove the excess skin that surrounds the meat. Even then, it was dry. Salsa was super watery. Didn't add any taste whatsoever. Had to mix both types of meats to get some sort of taste.
From now on, I will make the drive to San Benito. Till then, the search continues for a good Barbacoa place in Harlingen.
Positive: Bread selection. Tortillas. Get there early....
