steam café — Restaurant in Harrisburg

I read many, many reviews for this place. It gets a lot of 5 star reviews. They do not know how to make proper hash browns period. They're like a lump of wet noodles. The service is prompt and very polite. My son got the single chicken and waffle. The serving size of the "chicken" is very small. About the size of two small cheese sticks stuck together. They offered me jelly, I asked if they had jam and they said they did. So they brought me jelly. The waffle that my son ate had so much cinnamon and sugar on it. He forced himself to eat about half of it and could not finish it. My eggs were good, the toast was good, my tea was okay, and the sausage wasn't even as good as McDonald's. My son's coffee was supposed to have espresso in it and it did not. The prices on Google maps look reasonable when you look at their menu, but by the time you get done adding sides and a tip, over $30 for two breakfasts, neither of which were able to be finished because of substandard hash, brown mush and a waffle. I have needed to come to Harrisburg for the past 2 days and today the place I needed to go had a sign that they would not be open until 11am and I needed to get something to eat during my wait so I looked online and found Steam Cafe. I'm a coffee shop junkie so this fit the bill☺️ Everyone was so kind! I didn't have this experience yesterday, 97% of the people I encountered were not friendly. The food was delicious! They give a really good size portion, I get to take some home to share with my fur babies! The service was impeccable! We are in town to cheer my dad on for the Shawnee Marathon and found this place for some warm breakfast and coffee to get out of the rain. We read that the chicken and waffles were good...no the chicken and waffles are AMAZING!!

I got mine with gravy and my hubby got his with syrup. The waffles have caramelized sugar baked in so they are more sweet than usual so the gravy was to die for with it. I recommend asking for extra gravy because you definitely need more than comes with it. My son got pancakes and they are huge and he says they are delicious as well. The staff is very kind and sweet.
