Kroger Bakery — Restaurant in Harrison Township

Stopped by Kroger and picked out a full sized double layer carrot cake for my daughter's birthday and asked the woman behind the bakery counter if it would be possible to have "Happy 26th Birthday" written on it for us to pick up the next afternoon. The staff person was helpful and said she could set the cake aside for me in the freezer, but that Kroger no longer allows any personalization of cakes until the time of pickup, and she instructed me to come back the next afternoon and pick the cake up and tell the person at the counter at that time what I wanted written on the cake. Came back the next afternoon to claim the full sized double layer cake that was set aside for us and asked the bakery staff person behind the counter to write "happy 26th birthday" on the cake. The employee said there's not enough room to write that, so we asked for a small "happy 26th" instead. Staff again said there's no room for that and she could do just the number and a plastic happy birthday toothpick. We gave up and agreed, and this is what we got. What in the ...? I will never go to a Kroger bakery again. After being turned away from 2 other locations because they didn’t have cake decorators, I finally found one that did. The day after placing the order they confirmed the order and that they had the decorating kit for the cake I ordered. Today I pickup up the cake and it is absolutely NOT what I ordered. It has the character figurine but it’s a paper printout on the top of the cake, not the frosting design I ordered. The frosting on the cake doesn’t match the print out at all, and no one called to tell me about the change in design. I had no choice but to pay for the cake as I have a child’s birthday party today and did t have an oppurtunity to say I didn’t want the cake if it wasn’t what I ordered. When I asked why it wasn’t what I ordered they said their compresser broke. But that doesn’t explain why I wasn’t notified and given the oppurtunity to choose to move forward or not or at least choose the color of the frosting used so it could at least look like it matched and not a mix matched.
