This review is specifically about our vist on the 22nd of Feb around 1130.
I was there with my two older daughters. Order taken food delivered. Never got butter and jelly I asked for, but honestly, the last three times I had breakfast there and asked for butter and jelly I didn't get it. Once I never got the toast!
I would have asked for it, but the waitress seemed to be actively avoiding us while visiting the tables around us numerous times. Didn't even check back on the coffee. We decided to just observe and see how it went.
I suspect she thought she wouldn't get much of a tip from us, so spent her time on more lucrative prospects. I was a waiter once, I know how it goes. And they were busy so.... we were the scrificial lambs. Now, that's just my assessment of the situation. I didn't ask her. Maybe someone called out and she was overwhelmed, which is more of a management problem than wait staff problem.
Pro tip for any wait staff reading this: you never know, and writing a party off is shooting yourself in the foot.
Now for a general review, I love the Rooster. Coffee is great, roasted locally on 151 at Cashua coffee. I stopped in once and they gave me a tour and discussed how they got their beans and the roasting process. I buy a bag now and then from the Rooster. I love the Nicaraguan. There is a connection between Cashua and the Rooster.
The atmosphere is fantastic at the Rooster and the food is really good. Not huge portions, which i prefer. Things are a little elevated and not what you may expect in a small town in SC.
In general, after many visits I think the service is OK. Not bad, not great. They are always busy, and the wait staff usually doesn't write the order down, but some should.
Over all I'd give it a 4, but today it gets a 3, for service. I will be back. And you...
Read moreIn the small town of Hartsville the options are limited, so it’s not difficult to earn the title “best brunch in town.” If you’re looking for a good breakfast this is the place.
The menu is pretty limited, but what they are serving up is delicious. The biscuits and gravy are small bite sized delights that are shareable. The gravy was smothered over small and light biscuits with green onion on top. For the main course I ordered a yogurt and fruit stuffed crepe. It came in what looked like a crepe roll up, which has been my favorite presentation of this dish I’ve seen. On the menu it read (from my memory): yogurt, fruits (berries), and granola. They delivered on the yogurt. It was a simple vanilla hidden in the crepe roll. The berries were fresh and flavorful, but would have appreciated more of the freshness with every bite. The disappointment was the granola. A few crunchy bits were scattered on top, but my expectation was having that texture throughout the dish. The crepe is worth tasting, but I’d split it and order...
Read moreI’ve contemplated posting a review because I enjoy eating here, but the last few visits have left me disappointed. I have gotten the same sandwich the last 3 years I’ve eaten here, and I can’t say I will continue to do so.
The last 3 visits I’ve been here, I’ve received spoiled avocado on my sandwich. It’s disgusting. It makes the entire sandwich taste sour. I’ve told my server all 3 times and it seems the kitchen doesn’t care/ownership does nothing about it, which is extremely disappointing.
I feel sorry for the next person to get spoiled, outdated food from this restaurant. Until this is fixed, I won’t be eating here again. Other than the lackluster food, the servers are wonderful and they’re worth the visit. Hopefully someone doesn’t end up getting sick because of this lack of attention to pay attention to what food has gone bad. Again, just extremely...
