Southern Hart Brewing Company — Restaurant in Hartwell

Been coming here for years...however long it has been open. Never had an experience as bad as last night. Luckily my food was good, even though it took an hour to get it. We were seated after a table had to be cleaned off, but were not waited on for another 15-20 after that. We finally got drinks, but we waited a long time for our drinks from the bar to come out. Our food order came later, only because the kitchen was closing and our server "had to take our order now" even though we all knew what we wanted and were ready to order less than 5 minutes after we walked in. Another table of equal size who walked in about 10 minutes after us had already paid and left before we ever got our food. When the food came out, we were missing several items like extra dressings, fries, and some of us needed refills, plus we had no silverware or napkins. At this point, the restaurant was pretty much empty, but nobody still was paying any attention to us. We like supporting local businesses and this is one of our favorites in town but we felt like we were ignored from the time we walked in. We had a similar experience at the Boathouse the night before this, so we were hoping for a better experience. Service like this has made us not want to come back. I hope for the sake of the restaurant and the town, someone can fix this and get it back on track. It felt like the servers and hostess were wandering around trying to look busy but they really weren't doing much of anything. The restaurant was not even busy. There were also kids screaming and doing cartwheels on the stage which should not be happening at a restaurant. Our waitress left before we could pay so we had to go up to the bar.

To Susanne: Boathouse on Saturday our waitress told us it was short staffed and she was running around frantic. We got seated immediately and she didn’t come up to get our drink order for at least 20 minutes and we waited probably an hour to be able to order our food. Yes the food came out quickly once we could order. We were trying to be understanding but she was more attentive to every table around us. Once again, a table that came in after us was done eating and she cleared their plates while we were waiting on her to come back to our table so we could pay. I want you to know that I do not write these wanting to trash your business, but having bad service two nights in a row was really...

Service: 7/10, Staff was friendly and gave us a run down of the menu and specials. Refills were made without much waiting at all

Price: 5/10, your sandwiches cost anywhere from 9 dollars to about 12/13 dollars but there are a few plates and appetizers that leave you wondering if you're in some type of fine dining restaurant... 20 dollars for a trio of appetizers that bring very little of each (3 appetizers)?? A few plates and items were over $15 so if you come here and get drinks plus tip, be ready for a higher than usual total

Location and Parking: 5/10, You could say location is perfect as it is right in the middle of the Hartwell square, however, you'll have to find parking on the side roads or maybe even parallel park (gasp) if you're not having any luck.

Cleanliness: 5/10, Our table wasn't wiped clean and there were maybe about 374 flies next to us on a large window. Luckily they were stuck on the window because of the sunlight and not on us but that was definitely a turn off

Health Rating: 99... But what about the flies? 🧐

Roli Overall Rating: 4/10, I can't give it a 5 because I wouldn't stop by again even if I was in the area. To be fair I'm not a drinker so maybe this spot is better for someone looking for an alcoholic drink. The salad looked good but my friend was upset as it had items it did not describe in the menu and ended up picking about half the salad off. My best friend's sister had chicken tacos that had some spicy sauce and although the flavor of the sauce wasn't bad, the chicken itself had no flavor. My best friend had the philly cheese steak which looked delicious and juicy, she seemed happy with it. It had a lot of meat and cheese which is always a plus and it didn't look dry. My Cuban sandwich had good meat and ingredients inside but the bread was stale although the onion rings were pretty good. Appetizers... The cheeseburger egg rolls had good texture but tasted like absolutely nothing until you covered it in their sauce which was good. The fried pickles are cut the long way and have no crunch. The Ahi Tuna was over seared so it felt like a half cooked tuna although it was very soft and the sauce it came with was good.

Overall good hangout place for maybe a burger and some drinks but if you're looking for a food experience, just find another spot

This restaurant should not be listed as one of the top 10 in Hartwell, as this is one of the worst establishments I’ve visited. This is probably the first review I have ever posted at the age of 30 if that gives you an understanding of my disgust.

To begin, they seated us at a high top table, with our son that was under two years of age, with no high chair to support the height. The hostess looked overwhelmed or mad at the thought of us asking to relocate, but she did move us. After our drinks were delivered, the waiter did not request if we wanted anything and moved on.

After sitting for 5-10 minutes, he finally arrived and we placed our entire order. However, I will mention do not get your heart set on ordering all flats(wings), for an extra $4 as it provides on the menu- they no longer offer that option. My family ordered extra pretzels as an option, but the waiter forgot to add it to the order, so the extra arrived later. That’s fine though, mistakes happen.

As our food starts to arrive, my son didn’t receive his fruit cup side, with the mac-n-cheese that we ordered. When we asked the server, they said it doesn’t come with a side. At this point, I’m a little irritated and I correct the young lady and mentioned it says the order does come with a side.

Finally, as the food continues arriving, I waited an extra 5-10 minutes for the 10 chicken wings in comparison to the rest of the food. You would hope that asking for all flat, maybe I’ll at least get 1/2. I was wrong however in my assumption, when they only gave me 3 flats and the remaining 7 as drums. Once finished eating, I realized I never received a refill and it took us 10-15 minutes for waiter to close out the ticket. Thankfully, my wife filled out the receipt and provided a 20% tip, as I would not have been so generous.
