Food was excellent! We tried the meat samosas and chicken chili for appetizers and the goat jalfarzi and lamb kadhi for our main courses. The samosas were very good and much bigger than we're used to. The chicken chili was very flavorful and had just the right afterburn. My husband doesn't do much spicy foods because he simply cannot. He really enjoyed the lamb kadhi at low spice level. The garlic naan was very good, as was the mango chutney. I enjoyed the medium-spiced goat jalfarzi and the Old Monk Super Beer (Great suggestion by the waiter! I asked him for something that I may enjoy as opposed to an IPA). I was completely stuffed by the time my main course came around and only could manage to eat small amount of it before boxing it up for later. The food is very fresh and filling and so flavorful. Our server was kind, understanding, knowledgeable, and funny! The seats are comfortable, the restaurant is very nicely decorated, and music hits and just the right way. 🙂
We had a great time, and we'll definitely return! Thank you for a great end...
Read moreThere is now three reasons to come to Havelock. MCAS Cherry Point, The Croatan Forest, and India Mahal. When you pull up to this unassuming building for the first time you are most likely not expected to be transported to a festive and colorful restaurant in India. My wife and I could not stop talking about the colors of the decor. That is until we took our first bite of the Naan. From that point it was all about the food. We started with the bread basket which included naan, garlic naan, and aloo naan. It came with a dipping sauce that reminded me of a tzatziki. My wife ordered the chicken tandoori and I had the coconut shrimp. Both were so good we ended up sharing. The shrimp were very large and properly cooked. The spices were so delicious. The chicken was so good. I actually ended up dipping some of it in the sauce from the shrimp. Before I end my review I must tell about the staff. They are some of the warmest and welcoming people I’ve met. They were so nice and attentive. My wife and I will be eating...
Read moreI've been here a couple of dozen times, usually for breakfast which is usually pretty darn good. However, I brought my daughter for dinner tonight, telling her that I enjoy this place. It was not good. The wait staff is the same so no serious complaints there. We both ordered from the specials menu. When our food finally came (it took a while), everything was cold. I don't mean uncooked. I mean it had been sitting somewhere cooling off before it got to us. The chicken noodle soup, an item from the special menu, was cold on top and semi-hot at the bottom and had been cooking for so long that it was barely soup. It was more like a lumpy water with chicken and a few carrots. I ordered the 'Country steak". Again, cold topped with cold gravy. It wasn't what I expected, more like a cold, soggy, breaded Salisbury steak. We also tried the bite sized corn dogs. I do not recommend as they were cold (imagine that) and very over-cooked. I'm so disappointed. I like the place! This was not a good meal. I may stick with...
