A pretty good local brewery. The Hilo Golden is perhaps the best golden ale I’ve had, it’s really crisp and refreshing. The Mauna Kea Pale is fairly good too. Their IPAs and porters are meh. Prices are ok, and they have a bunch of merch and to-go cans available. Service is good. They don’t serve food, but there seems to usually be some food vendor set up in their warehouse area.
The main reason for the lowered rating is that I was only able to visit them on my third attempt. My successful visit was on Friday, but I previously tried to stop by during the business hours on Wednesday and Thursday, only to be met by locked gates with no explanations for the closure. You guys have social media…use it!
@Gerry Lowe bruh, could you be more vague? What do you mean by “the 4 major breweries on the Big Island”? There are 5 breweries…my best guess is that you skipped Wailuku Brew Works and Big Island Brewhaus and are instead counting both the Hilo and Kona locations of Ola Brew. Read moreWe have been here a few times now and our experience gets better and better with each trip to the island. The beer is delicious. The cocktails are delicious. The staff…there is no place that has felt more like a home away from home for us than Hilo Brewing. Last year we sat and talked with the brewmaster. This year, he was not only still brewing but now making the best tacos on the island. Turns out, we showed up for their first Taco Tuesday event. chefs kiss The tacos were simple, delicious and absolutely perfect. The salsa was so good.
Even without the food, the staff (Hey Brigitte) is what makes this place feel so comfortable. The beer gets you there, the staff make it hard to leave. Truly.
Can’t wait to see you...
Read moreHad the opportunity to stop by Hilo Brewing last week with my wife. What a gem! When I think of a brewery this is what I think of. The place has character! You are sitting right in the middle of their operation and the place smells like a brewery! (which is to say it smells good). The service was stellar- the bartender and other workers couldn't have been friendlier. We tried all of the brews and they were great- my personal favorite was the Porter. I can say that I stopped at the 4 major breweries on the Big Island and the Porter at Hilo is hands down the very best! Although we didn't have any food it smelled wonderful. Only downside to the brewery is that it is pretty much on the other side of the planet from...
