We were expecting great things for KPC based off the fact that it gets the highest reviews of the restaurants at Hilton Waikoloa Village. However, service, high prices, and an encounter with a roach left us disappointed.
First, a server was slow to get to our table, which we found to be common at the Hilton Waikoloa Village restaurants. When he finally came, he was pleasant and we tried to overlook the slowness. But then he forgot the butter that goes with the bread basket that we ordered, said he would go get it, then forgot again. We sat while the bread got cold, waiting for the butter.
When our meals arrived, they were good, but not necessarily worth the extremely high prices. Similar dishes can be found in the area for much more reasonable prices.
The worst part of the experience was when a roach landed on my arm out of nowhere. Startled, I flicked it off of me, sending it to our table cloth. It then proceeded to crawl up and over my husband’s plate and over to his water glass, where it climbed to the top rim. My husband flagged down the closest waiter to show him, who threw his hand over the roach perched on the glass, and scurried away with the glass, roach and all. We thought the waiter would come back and at least apologize and offer a replacement glass of water, but we didn’t hear from him again. Maybe he could have at least alerted our waiter so my husband could get a new glass of water, but our waiter had no idea anything happened until we told him. (My husband never did get another glass of water, by the way, even after we explained the whole incident to our server).
After that incident, my husband lost his appetite and couldn’t even eat his meal (which he had just started) because the roach had crawled across his plate. The restaurant did end up taking his meal off our ticket, but only after several back and forths between our server and manager. Our waiter’s attitude also changed drastically after we complained about the roach. Maybe he thought his tip was going to go down because of it (it wasn’t), but my husband and I both noticed that his tone and attitude completely changed after he spoke with his manager about the situation.
I understand that roaches can be bad on the island, but if a guest has one crawl on their arm and then into their food, I would have expected some sort of acknowledgment or apology from a restaurant that promotes itself as being high-end.
Overall, not worth it. Yes, the view is beautiful, but there are similar views elsewhere that are better-managed and...
Read moreI’ve been here a handful of times. Each time I’m not especially impressed with the food considering the price and the quality they advertise having. But it’s a resort restaurant so I’m not especially surprised. The view and location are pretty lovely so I would definitely recommend coming for a drink and a shared app. That being said the last time I wanted to make a to go order of an item they were out of night before. It took 3 phone calls to get ahold of the restaurant (right when they opened) and when the person answered they said they always have the dish available. Luckily, I knew that hadn’t been the case the previous night so I asked her to check. As luck would have it they had 3 orders left (this was only 10 mins after they had opened.) I requested a to go order and was told I had to come down and order at the bar and wait. The first issue is what if I come all the way down and they already sold those 3 orders. The resort is huge so getting to the restaurant can take a while. Also, on what planet does it make sense to ask a guest to wait while you prepare an order when you’re charging $25 for an appetizer. I did ask if they could make an exception as I was headed to the airport shortly and was told no. Most high end restaurants are able to make exceptions for small things to accommodate their guests. Prior to this visit I had come for my first anniversary dinner with my husband and no notice or mention was made of this. Additionally, the food while not bad was probably the most expensive we had on the island and was easily our least favorite (this is compared to high, mid, and low end restaurants.)While this wouldn’t be a reason in itself to write a less than 5 star review I believe this coupled with this most recent experience is evidence that the service, food, value, and environment of this restaurant don’t live up to 4/5 stars. *I did end up waiting for the item pictured which was 3 Pork Bao Buns. Sadly, they were not worth the wait or price. They were lacking in sauce (just the little bit you see drizzled on the top) and I think we’re supposed to have some sort of mayo or something but did not. The cabbage was soggy. The pork wasn’t bad but needed something to balance out the fattiness and richness. Would not...
Read moreKamuela Provision Company (KPC) at Hilton Waikoloa Resort is a restaurant where breathtaking sunset views and excellent hosting outshine the overall dining experience. The prime oceanfront location and open-air design create a serene and romantic ambiance, perfect for a special evening.
We had a reservation for later in the evening but were pleasantly surprised when they accommodated us earlier. This allowed us to snag what was arguably the best seat in the house, offering an unobstructed view of the stunning Hawaiian sunset--a memory to cherish.
Service: The service was a highlight of the evening. Ariel, our host, was exceptional--knowledgeable, attentive, and personable. He patiently answered our questions about the menu and offered thoughtful recommendations. His warm hospitality elevated our experience despite the mixed quality of the food.
Food: While the setting and service were outstanding, the food quality didn't quite match the ambiance. Here's what we ordered:
Chard Salad: Unfortunately, this dish was a letdown, lacking the freshness one would expect at a fine-dining establishment.
Fresh Catch (Hamachi):Ordered twice, the hamachi was overcooked, resulting in a texture that was hard rather than tender and flaky as anticipated.
Sashimi Duo: The star of the evening. This dish, featuring Ahi and Kanpachi paired with radish, ginger, and a good squeeze of finger lime ( caviar like consistency of the lime pearls/pulp), was a true delight. Its thoughtful flavors and presentation highlighted the potential of the kitchen.
Final Thoughts: Kamuela Provision Company offers unparalleled views and exceptional service, with Ariel's hosting as a standout feature of our visit. However, the food quality fell short of expectations, particularly given the restaurant's premium pricing.
Would we return? The ambiance and service might tempt us for another visit, but we'd hope for an improved culinary experience to truly make it worth the splurge.
PS: This review is for a visit from earlier in the year and it somehow slipped out of my reviews that i...
