Our family of 5 (2 parents and 3 young men age 18-22) just spent a week @ this resort and it was great from start to finish. We had a 2 bed 2 bath unit. The POSITIVES: The lanai was very large - which I absolutely love - and had a sliding door from the living room and the master bedroom. The kitchen was well stocked. The front desk provides guests w/ a # to text any time something is needed {coffee, salt & pepper, clean towels, more hangers, etc) This was super easy and the response was always immediate and friendly. We were in building #4, which is directly across from one of the Pools & the Gym. The young men utilized the gym daily. The shuttle that goes thru out the resort 'village' stops in front there as well. It was hard to imagine how this multiple resort 'village' was set up before our visit. It really is a self contained "village" consisting of 4 Hilton properties {Hilton Ocean Towers, The Bay Club, King's Landing and Waikoloa Beach Resort}. There are 2 shopping centers w/ restaurants & tourist shopping spots, a golf course & a "food" store (that was WAY overpriced), along with some private residences and non Hilton resort properties . This self contained 'Village' is located 25 miles/35 min drive from the town of Kona. After we picked up the rental car, we drove in to Kona and went to Costco & WalMart to buy groceries for the week. We only ate out 1x per day, and cooked breakfast & lunch in the room (if we were there). The beds were super comfortable - even the pull out couch my son said was "a 7 on a scale of 1-10". We utilized a roll away bed that was good as well. The rooms were clean. The stackable washer/dryer was great to have, however I don't think the washer worked right. It only filled w/ about 3 inches of water before it began agitating. I had to add water manually from the Kitchen sink each time. The storage in the unit was great and we loved having a big dining room table that seated 6. TVs were good size in bedrooms + living room. Housekeeping comes in only 1x during a 7 day stay - but you can easily get whatever you need in between. The ladies @ the front desk were amazing !! Overall this property is very quiet. Parking was easy {right in front of your building}. The grounds were beautiful. A very comfortable home away from home. We always have a good experience @ Hilton timeshare properties.| THE NEGATIVES: The resort is located 35 minutes from Kona, where we preferred to eat out, because the restaurants there are ocean front w/ great ambiance and lower prices that the on site restaurants. {we did eat @ L&L Hawaiin BBQ in the Queens Marketplace Food Court on site and it was well priced and very good,}. There is a small town called Waikoloa Village that is only 7 miles up the hill from the resort property, that has a grocery store w/ much better prices than the on site 'grocery' store, if you do not want to drive 35 minutes in to KONA. However the WalMart & Target in KONA were definitely best. Overall the resort is isolated and it takes time to drive to get groceries or eat out other than the on-site restaurants. Something to consider------------------------|Couple of other things to know: The ROSS store in KONA is fantastic. They have so much stuff there - so if you forgot anything head there - they also had some cool souvenir items. There is a 'farmers market' in a parking lot in the middle of Kona that is good, but try to also visit the Ali'i Gardens Marketplace located at 75-6129 Ali'i Dr. You can get excellent Kona Coffe there and we purchased 2 bottles of Balsamic Vinegar at 'Marvels of Hawaii' booth and I am crazy about the Pineapple flavor. It is...
Read moreWe had just stayed here this past weekend and it's a mixed review. Unfortunately, you can't book your room online so you have to call for a reservation. There are minimal photos of what the rooms look like. You have to base it off of other people's photos of the rooms on google. Your 2 options are 1 bedroom & 2 bedroom. The 1 bedroom we stayed at with 2 adults 1 toddler has a pullout sofa in the living room which is nice with a very big TV. We had booked pretty late, close to date we wanted to reserve but we took the last room available. Luckily, our room was in the PERFECT spot. With a toddler, unpacking etc is already difficult in itself. So having a room at the first building and floor all the way at the end inside was perfect. And it was the corner room right in front of the parking stalls which there were many available. We didn't use much of the amenities, just wanted to have a mini vacay from living on the other side of the island. Pros: For our building, many parking available right in front. Perfect room location. Gated complex, so no one really bothers. If you stay at Bay Club you have access to the Kohala Suites pool, so 3 pools available total. Pretty 'chill' place to stay with minimal noise outside of your room. Fast check-in, took about 5 mins max. But I think we just got lucky because there was no line and it was 4pm on a Thursday. Upon check out you have the option to do it from your phone I believe, but I haven't tried that yet. Cons: Room is outdated and was lowkey a little dirty... We had to clean the main bathroom's sink and tub as there was gray hair in both. And the kitchen stove knobs had to be cleaned. Dishes in the cabinets were dirty and not cleaned that well. Shower head was dirty, bathtub faucet and shower head were so old and falling off with holes you can see to the wall. There was also insect poop along the windsill behind the living room curtain to the lanai. From the main room you can hear everyones footsteps and them using the shower or toilet (water pipe noises) above you. So not very sound proof rooms. Also the pull out sofa had no actual sheet on it so I don't know the last time it's been cleaned. Not associated with any Hilton ammenities, so you don't have access to Hilton's hotel pool. They do not offer any room discounts such as AAA, Hilton honors, or kama'aina. Conclusion: For the future, I would only book here if I really really needed a room with super...
Read moreI would like to apologize to the management at the Bay Club if anyone saw the review I posted the other day (3 March 2018) regarding the cat feeding stations. I highly recommend staying here for the location and spacious rooms and lanais! I wrote some things in angst, embellished some circumstances about the Bay Club and Big Island in general, as I was upset and exhausted from traveling, and this is a very sensitive topic to me and what I dedicate many hours to volunteering at home. I thought the cat feeding stations that were introduced years back (at least the 7 years I have been coming here) have been removed and the cats abandoned, and I thought I was getting the run around and dodgy answers from management. I WAS WRONG and should have waited for more information, but I figured that I would get ignored, as customer service is fairly a thing of the past. I apologize the the staff. They are continuing to take care of the cats in coordinated efforts with local advocacy groups and the humane society, and expanded the program to the HGVC Kohala Suites and Kingland, and likely were the influence for other resort villas to start their own! It is the resort guests that were the problem - surprise surprise - by feeding them harmful human cooked food and causing them to encroach on the lanais.... We weren't being dodged by management, they were servicing other clients arriving on Saturday and Sunday. I'm basically a stone and impervious to being upset or bothered by anything and have been through a lot, but I'm not too proud to admit that cats are my week spots and I volunteer at a rescue to help them, but get way more out of it that they help me. The general manager at the Bay Club (Phil) was gracious enough to call us and take us and show us a station and explain everything about the program and why it moved. It meant more than he could know and brightened our days and set our minds at ease that the cats are better off than they were before! I said that it was full of old people and boring - but look around Hawaii - it is slow paced and old people dominate the tourism because they are the ones that can afford it! I highly recommend the Bay Club - rooms are bigger, and if you want fancier accouterments - Kingsland or Kohala Suites. Thanks and I sincerely apologize for my negative review. I will be back annually or biannually to...
