I went to Kohala zip line with my friends Alan,Richy, and Pastor on the way back they (kohala zipline) recommended this spot as the best Mexican food (a brave statement, we didnāt put it on such a high pedestal) first impression was a refuse to serve for any reason that seemed unfriendly. After that it too like 10 minutes for them to acknowledge us then we were told to pick a table. They were all very dirty with food and all kinds of scraps. There were flies everywhere. When we got our food the flies wouldnāt buzz off. Some background all our family is born and raised in Mexico (we are all from Nor cal Bay Area) and though my family makes the best food I know to expect less from random spots especially so far away. I ordered a plate of carne asada the beans were black and not fried. (Just a preference but not my kind of beans we eat pinto out here) the rice was hard and grainy the meat was dry and unseasoned the tortillas were stingy for the price. Flies were all over me and my food I couldnāt bring myself to finish my plate. Honestly a disgrace to Mexican food I understand not everyone has the skills but to sell that is unacceptable. Itās like if your homies mom who sucks at cooking opens a restaurant but since no one knows how itās supposed to taste itās ok to them. Itās una desgracia on my momma save your money these people have no respect for Mexican food or running a restaurant itās criminal honestly. To sum it up the food sucks ( as a Mexican who is the first one in his family to be born in usa and speak English) Taco Bell is better these people sadly make terrible food (gives me displeasure to say but itās on god the truth). Bad food bad service disgustingly dirty atmosphere an embarrassment to Mexico and itās Legendary ancient...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAs someone who spent a large amount of his life living in Texas and the Desert Southwest(AZ, CA, CO, NM), I have had what I think is a fair amount of exposure to both terrible, bland, Americanized generic Mexican food, and really quite amazing dishes from Baja to Oaxaca, Laredo to Jalisco, even traditional Mayan. This place is outstanding for a number of reasons. The food is excellent, let's start there. The classic Cantina style, order at the window and have a seat, is authentic as it gets, and it doesn't hurt that the prices are very reasonable considering both the quality and quantity involved with said price. Oh, and the icing for this cake? The folks who own and operate this place are just really nice folks who make and sell food that reflects not just their culture and cuisine, but their personalities. That is arguably one of the best reasons they've managed to do so well in small town Hawai'i, because their food reflects the love they put into each and every dish that leaves their kitchen,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreGreat food! As one that lives in Southern California I know good Mexican food when I taste it. To find good Mexican food this far from home is a nice treat! Most are not looking for Mexican food in Hawaii but one can only eat so much Lau Lau, potatomac and Rice. I ordered the Chicken Enchilada, Taco, Relleno plate. The Beans and Rice were good as well, which is where some places will skimp on the quality. Prices were very reasonable for the amount of food served. The dinning area was not finished when I went there but was pretty close to being done. I sat out on the porch which was still a great place! If not for the lack of a good Mexican beer and atmosphere it would have been a...
