I really wouldn't recommend this place to anyone as I have been here before about 15 years ago and unfortunately they haven't changed. When we first got there I made reservations and unfortunately she stuck us at the bar for izakaya style. I was thinking how come when we have reservations for a table well I figured that we would try it again and give them another chance. I was wrong the food was so terrible that everything looked like they just threw everything together nothing was placed beautifully like their pictures on the website. The service was horrible while we sat at the bar the bartender had an attitude like why'd you come here. The fact that they're was 1 time he asked how everything was but he was more personable talking to his fellow coworkers than anything also since they stuck us with him because I was seated at the end of the bar everytime they kept passing through I would get bumped so I was getting irritated and I asked my guests to please move down. I didn't get any apologies for bumping you. The fact that this is supposed to be a amazing place is an understatement I wouldn't. The food for me what I got was sesame chicken and the shrimp vegetables tempura. The sesame chicken was just cut up chicken katsu with sauce dressed I thought that it was going to be more delicious it was tuff and for the oyako donburi it definitely needed the egg because it was very bland and the sandwich was nothing special. The next time you're in Hilo go somewhere else

My husband celebrated my 40th birthday here and we could not find a better place to celebrate this special occasion. We were lucky enough to be seated in front of the kitchen, which by the way, are the best seats in the restaurant. We had an AMAZING interactive experience with Chef Dominic and Sous-chef Yama; they are INCREDIBLE. We asked to the chef for his self-created dishes, and he gave us his absolute BEST!. We had small plates, like tapas more or less, and they were absolutely delicious. Every plate had its own vibe, magic, and technique. The food was really FRESH, cooked in front of us, could not ask for more. Alexis, our server/host/sommelier was OUTSTANDING. She gave us the best pairing for every dish, she delivered to perfection our requests, and catered us like royalty, she even ordered an Uber for us when we were finished. Prices are reasonable and very affordable, in comparison to another high-end restaurants in the Big Island. The restaurant is a GEM in Hilo. DEFINITELY HIGHLY recommended!!

"I leave it up to you." Dining at Izakaya Miyo is a delightful surprise especially since you need to totally trust your personal chef. In this case three people prepping and cooking. Hilo Chef Skylar and his assistant Seven were very personable and they took the time to let us know what they creatively prepared. It helped that we decided to take the five o' clock seating and so the restaurant was was free from too much distraction. I don't remember if any of the dishes had formal Japanese names but nevertheless, each dish was artfully prepared and skillfully plated. Each dish has its own taste experience. Having your chef explain the detail that goes into each dish makes each bite a more pleasurable experience. Does it take a Japan trained chef to prepare this kind of eye popping, delicious food? We were not disappointed in the least and it was fun to talk to the chefs while were dining and not have to make any decisions about what to order next. Omakase! I leave it up to you.

NO MATTER HOW BAD THE SERVICE OR FOOD I DONT WRITE VIEWS BUT I HAD TO ON THIS ONE!

Last years trip to Hilo I was unable to eat at Miyos due to the high value of customers. This year I was determined. I made reservations on my last night in Hilo.

The hostess walked us to our table a party of four. 10 mins later the hostess walked backed to our table with another party of five and said “why are you seating here?” I told her. “you sat us here”. I was so embarrassed! After being moved to another table the waiter expecting for us to grab our own water and salad as we were moving to another table.

I ordered thier special a medium steak that came out well done as the waitress noticed she asked “I see its well done, would you like me to take it back” I replied “yes please”. So she took the steak back to the cheif and left my plate with sauce spilt on my side meal.

As I was patiently waiting and watching the rest of my party enjoying thier food 15 mins later the Cheif came out with my steak and didn’t even enknowledge me as if he was irritated and walked away.

The waiter came back to fill our water and noticed that as she was pouring our glass the condensation From the pitcher was dripping into my food. In addition to my bad experience I was charged 100% more and they had to make the...

Was seated outside which wouldn't be an issue except staff kept walking past us with dishes on their way to the kitchen. Harsh fluorescent lighting , zero ambiance. Ordered iced teas , very little ice, so just cool teas. Again not an issue except staff ignored us passing by over and over. Never got a refill or a concern

We both had the bento boxes, service was spotty. Served the wrong dishes to our table, we had to flag someone down to fix, our waiters first comment was " I thought you ordered that" instead of let me take care of that.

I ate a 1-2 pieces of each element as the squid was very very tough, the sashimi wasn't fresh, the chicken was low quaility and mostly breading . Felt ill from eating. We were not checked on had to wait at the host station till someone noticed me. They offered complementary ice cream and knocked 50% off my box on the bill. Nice, except we don't eat dairy and I barely touched my meal at all. My girlfriend maybe ate half of hers as well , just not very appetizing. Biggest issue was the quality of the food and service vs the price.

Best part of the meal, the miso soup. Which...
