Orly Patisserie — Restaurant in Hawaii

We stumbled across Orly Patisserie while shopping for groceries nearby and it proved to be one of our favorite culinary experiences while on Kauai. Literally something from their shop was had daily with our morning coffee for almost two weeks. The cream puffs are simply amazing!!! We sampled (meaning we ate at least one container!) all four types (coconut, lilikoi, vanilla, chocolate). Coconut and vanilla were our faves. The lightness and flavor of the cream combines perfectly with the best executed eclair dough we have experienced in our travels. A delight!!! Do yourself a favor and try any flavor!!! We also had the lilikoi ube cheesecake, a signature item, which was delicious. Tiramisu was the second best we've ever had (hat tip to #1 Corbo's Bakery in Little Italy, Cleveland). Need a quick lunch? Grab a ham and cheese croissant. Everything we had was excellent and the staff brought a smile and positive energy to the experience. Get the cakes, skip the macarons. We're macaron fanatics, we buy them if we see them anywhere. These were extremely disappointing since they had almost no flavor and we couldn't tell by biting into them what the flavor was. The center was just a very sweet cream, no flavor to it. The cookie part had very little to no flavor, but I'm guessing that's where the flavor was supposed to be since it wasn't in the filling. The coconut was obvious but that was the only one. If you've had high quality macarons, these will be a let down. The $2 price was great, but we didn't even eat a whole one in our taste testing. 1 star for these.

I came to Kauai for my birthday and my sweet fiancé ordered a cake from the bakery for me. The person he worked with asked multiple times how to spell my name and even mentioned it would be the worst thing if my name was spelled wrong. We were staying in the north shore and he had a delivery service bring the cake to our rental house. They spelled my name completely wrong. For reference, my name is “Cynclaire” and the cake said “Cyndlaite.” My fiancé called and gave the business a chance to make it right, and they said the manager would call him back and never did.
