Tip Top is a must visit for my family. My cousin said that it's one of the best places to have breakfast on Kauai. My dad always wants the Yokozuna Bento (chicken, ribeye steak, corned beef hash, Goteburg sausage with rice, macaroni salad, and takuan). I got the regular sized bento which had the same things, but smaller. It was still a lot of food, but actually manageable for me! If you can do the Yokozuna, go for it! WOOT! I especially liked the ribeye steak and found it surprisingly tender. I wrote to Hormel about Goteburg sausage and they said that it's only available in Hawaii, so people freeze it and carry it home in their luggage. I can get Spam on the mainland, so Goteburg is the way to go for me! Also, we do not pronounce it the same way as the Swedish city. Half of my family says Goot-en-burg and the other half says Got-burg. The Swedish pronunciation is Yeh-the-bor-ee. Awkward. (See also lychee and aloe.) This particular visit was special, because I had breakfast with 2 aunties from my Dad's side and an uncle from my Mom's side ... and I sent a picture of breakfast to my Dad. Tip Top has its own Pokestop. (We were at the 7-11 and I mentioned that Tip Top was almost directly behind us, because I clicked on the Pokestop.)

This motel is one of the most affordable on the island of Kauai, HI. The reason is that it does not have any interesting activities or attractions on the property except a very popular with local people restaurant. And, i think, it is a very positive thing. This island has so many attractions in every corner that it is an embarrassment, in my view, to waste a precious time sitting inside the hotel most of the day even though some other hotels have a lot to offer. This motel has all basic things you might need. It is clean and well managed. Of course, there are some instances of inconvenience as in any other hotel. For example, your neighbors might stand next to your room and loudly talking during the evening time not realizing that someone might be already sleeping because of the early flight. And, it seems they talk but do not hear each other and there is no end to it. Otherwise, it is an enjoyable place to stay. Save money on hotel and spend more time outdoors.

This place is a must-visit for anyone seeking a delicious and authentic Hawaiian experience! We didn't stay at the motel, but the cafe definitely deserves a 5-star rating. The atmosphere is pure nostalgia. Imagine a big open room with rows of comfy booths, perfect for catching up with friends and family. The staff is incredibly efficient – we were amazed at how they expertly maneuvered carts piled high with steaming plates and drinks, weaving between tables without missing a beat. Our meal was fantastic. We tried the loco moco – a classic Hawaiian dish with a perfectly seasoned hamburger patty, fluffy white rice, savory gravy, and a fried egg on top. Absolutely delicious! The miso soup was a perfect accompaniment, light and flavorful. Tip Top Cafe is a great example of why you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. It may not be fancy, but the food is incredible, the service is friendly and fast, and the prices are very reasonable. We highly recommend it!

So this one is for kamaainas (locals). The Tip Top Motel Cafe has been open over 100 years so don’t expect fancy; expect great local food. In the dimly lit interior we sat in dark booths surrounded by business men, older couples, and young local families at lunch time. We saw our cool young hotshot vacation rental sales rep with his gorgeous girlfriend coming out having just eaten the stew for lunch. He works in Princeville and this was a bit of a drive. He said this restaurant had the best food. I ordered the mini bento plate with teriyaki steak, corned beef hash patty, crispy fried chicken, sausage, macaroni salad and rice. I also ordered a bowl of regular saimin that came with char siu pork and hot mustard on the side. That teriyaki steak was so tender, flavorful and perfectly cooked! It had great steak flavor, the best we’ve had in months. The fried chicken had a lightly crunchy coating and was really good. Everything was good.

Like most reviewers, we didn't stay at the motel, we just ate at the Cafe. I took my boyfriend here for brunch on his birthday. This is a local gem and I can see why! It was packed but service did not skip a neat. We were seated right away and had our order taken as soon as we were ready. I ordered the small oxtail soup and a hadhbrown on the side. My boyfriend ordered the breakfast combo that included eggs, meal (he got bacon), Mac Nut Pancakes and a hash brown. I was so jealous of his delicious looking eggs that I ended up ordering one on the side and eating it over rice. Shout out to the Lola that took our order. She was on top of it. Everything was amazing. This was such a simple meal yet so delicious and one of our favorite meals on the trip. P.S. the small order of oxtail soup is still a large portion of food! I didn't eat all the noodles.

We will now add Tip Top to our favorite places on the island and it is now a Must-Go for our time in Kauai. On the flight over from the mainland, one of the flight attendants told me about it and we actually saw her eating here too the next day! This food is legit. Homemade from scratch and completely delicious. We had a variety of dishes and cuisines at our table but everyone was in love with their meal. The wait staff is efficient and helpful. The place is a little noisy but not too bad. We could still easily hear conversation at our table. I got the grilled cheese with ham and it tasted like heaven! I'll be back for sure! They have great breakfast offerings, Including tasty pancakes. They also feature standard Hawaiian, Asian classics, and standard diner food. There is literally something for everyone.
