The Fish Express — Restaurant in Kauai

Was recommended this poke place by locals, and it did not disappoint. They have a poke menu and another cooked fish based menu. We wanted to get one serving of each, But they stop serving the cooked fish at 2pm. You can choose 2 or 3 scoops of poke for your bowl for 1 dollar difference in price. We ended up getting two 3 scoop poke bowls (1: Maui onion, spicy lobster, spicy salmon and asparagus. 2: spicy ahi, wasabi shrimp, smoked salmon). After choosing your rice and seafood, they have plenty of toppings to choose from including seaweed salad, kimchee, pickled ginger, edamame and many more. It was a big portion for the price and so delicious. The smoked salmon was sweet and savory, it stood out as my fav. We were taking a drive around the island and got hungry about the time we got to Lihue. We looked for a place that was open relatively early. This place opened at 10 a.m., so we decided to check it out.

They have an excellent selection of poke, and also offer salads and cooked fish dishes. I had the salmon lumpia salad, which was pretty good. My husband had fish tacos, which were excellent.

The people behind the counter were friendly. The interior of this place was clean and the atmosphere was laid back. It's basically a fish market that offers some prepared meals. But they don't have tables, chairs or restroom facilities for patrons. Some of the folks who stopped in looked like they were taking food back to the office for co-workers. Out of this world poke!

This take out seafood deli in Lihue is in itself is worth a trip to Kauai!

To the traditional Hawaiian poke of skinned and deboned raw fish served with usual condiments of sea salt, candlenut, seaweed, and limu, we added a bunch of toppings to our preferred bed of sushi rice.

My favorite toppings were the tangy mango, cucumber and mussels. But everything from avocado to edamame would work to complement the high quality of the yellowfin tuna (Ahi) and yellowtail tuna (Hamachi).

We came here twice in a row and took the bowls to a nearby beach for lunch. Can’t beat that!… almost forgot to mention that the service was also outstanding!!!… and that believe me when I tell you that this place, the malasadas coffee shop, alongside with the 🏖 and helicopter tour were the highlights...
