I may not be a papusa person, but that is beside the point. I had my first one (or 3) here and all of them tasted plain. The cabbage and tomato sauce improved it minimally. Chips were ok. Salsa was pretty good. I was advised by a friend to stay away from the horchata even though I was craving it. This same friend said that he ordered an item vegetarian last time he was there and they still put meat in it. The place was crowded so the wait for the table was expected, but the slow service was not. Everyone at the front desk was smiling and kind. So was our server, but she took her time with ever approaching our table to take our order. The chips and salsa arrived well before the drinks, so our mouth were getting dry, but we were getting too hungry to refrain from eating the chips. I didn't notice until before we left, but there was a crack in the bottom of my cup, which explained why it constantly a puddle under my cup.when I picked it up. I thought it was intense condensation. The food took a very long time to come out to the point where we had to ask for another basket of chips. The food arrived right before the chip's did, but we wish we were checked up on sooner so that we could actually eat the second basket of chips. When she checked up on us, it was often very shallow of a check-in, which is fair when you seem to be in a rush. Even though I was not a fan of the food, I wanted to take it home, so I requested a container for the tomato sauce and our server forgot. After 5min and noticing our server helping others, we asked a different server so that we could leave the place and the best they could come up with was a Ziploc bag.
It seems that this place could have gone a long way with a self-service water dispenser and a self-servicd chips and salsa station so that there is less strain on the servers, especially when it got busier and less wait, or caring for the wait to be served by patrons. Even when it died down inside it seemed like they were constantly rushing. Disposable cups for the salsa would go a long way. Those cups could be used for taking home some tomato sauce for my leftover papusas, too. We also would not have to wait for waters.
Price seemed fair for what we got. Filled us up.
2 stars because staff seemed mostly sincere, food wasn't inedible, and there is hope that if some improvement is made, there may be a reason to go back,...
Read moreI was craving papusas after arriving to my best friends house after the Warriors parade. We had no clue what to cook for dinner & I really wanted to try some authentic papusas! My bestie suggested this place. Their papusas are amazing here!! My first time here & all their food is so very delish that I cannot wait to come back for more!! I am truly addicted!!! I live 2 hrs away from this place so this will be my go to spot when I am in the area!!! Their service is great & they really know how to take care of us. We walked in when they were 20 mins left to close, but they still served us an amazing meal from start to finish! My children even enjoyed their food! Which I liked since they can also get picky. My son ordered their burrito & he was so full from eating half of it but he really wanted to eat more of it after eating half the burrito. I really enjoyed my time eating & spending time here! Eating with my family felt like I was eating at home in my kitchen. This place knows how to make it feel family oriented. They have very beautiful & clean bathrooms that does not stink! Lol honestly I did not expect their bathrooms to look anything like what I assumed when walking in. Most restaurant bathrooms look outdated & a bit smelly but this was up to date & they did a great job keeping their womens restroom clean! I enjoyed my time here & had the...
Read morePupusas aren’t a foreign concept in my culinary vocabulary, but this was my first time ordering them from a dedicated pupusa place (usually from food trucks). We arrived around 1 p.m., and despite the long line, we were seated promptly.
Once seated, they promptly handed out their menus and took our orders within ten minutes. While we waited, we were served chips and salsa. However, the wait for the appetizer was surprisingly quick, as if they sensed our hunger. Nevertheless, we had to call twice to get our water and empty plates.
The main course, the pupusas, arrived 30-40 minutes later. We were already quite full from the appetizers and chips, so we couldn’t finish our main course.
Fortunately, their dishes reheated well, so we were able to enjoy the rest of our meal for dinner.
We tried fried yuca with fried pork for appetizer. The yuca was delicious and soft, but I found the pork to be on a super salty side; however, it balances well with their escabeche (pickled vegetables).
Pupusas were delicious with a balance portion and taste. Taco was alright. Not a fan of the tortillas and the asada came out too dry.
Parking can be a challenge, but it shouldn’t be a major concern. The servers were friendly and attentive, despite the busy nature of...
