We've been in search of great Italian food since moving to Henderson from New York 5 years ago. After reading the great reviews we decided to try the Pasta Shop. It is a fairly small place, decorated with tons of modern art for sale. It wasn't very crowded on a Sunday early evening. However, I could see a problem when they are busy. The table behind us was so close that I don't think a person could have been seated behind me without our chairs touching.
We were greeted immediately by a friendly young lady who offered us water and brought bread. The first sign of a great Italian restaurant is good bread. This should have been a warning sign that we were in for a less than stellar meal. The bread looked like a soggy ciabatta roll topped with cheese and warmed a bit. It had no flavor, and the texture was limp as if it was microwaved or just warmed so quickly it did not have a crisp crust. The bottom of the bread had a coating of white flour that made it taste undercooked.
I asked for a recommendation and she said the baked rigatoni was the way to go. So I ordered it with chopped meatballs. It's supposed to have 4 cheeses and come in a rose sauce. My husband ordered the classic vegan option. This is the description copy/pasted from their website "Tomato sauce, vegan meatballs, one spicy sausage, fresh basil." Let's start with that. He noticed there was no sausage in the dish. We pointed it out and she said "it's either meatballs OR sausage, not both. Then she quickly scooted away before we could say anything else. Well, if there is a typo on the menu, then why wasn't he offered the choice when we ordered? The tomato sauce was not very flavorful and the meatballs had no flavor at all. Now on to the baked rigatoni. The dish was so hot I could not even taste it for over 10 minutes without burning my mouth. Next I could not detect 4 cheeses in the dish, just mozzarella. The meatballs mixed in had an odd texture like they had been steamed and not sautéed before being added to the dish. The sauce was flat, with little flavor other than tasting of cream. We would have liked some grated cheese but none was offered. I tried to get her attention several times but it seemed she was the only server working and by the time she came over to us again, we were just ready to leave. I ate very little of my rigatoni and since we got such a dismissive answer about the vegan dish we just decided to get the check and leave.
$50 for two underwhelming meals and dismissive service is just not our idea of a great evening out. And before the owner mentions we should have pointed out our issues while in the restaurant, we tried and were blown off. We shouldn't have to get up from our table to track the server down, get told we were wrong about our order and then expect them to be responsive about our other issues...
Read moreVisiting from out of state. Staying in the Vegas area, but found this place nestled in Henderson, about 20 minutes from the Vegas Strip and a pretty easy drive (not as much traffic). Much more affordable than places in Vegas & free onsite parking available. Went on a Saturday for dinner at 7pm.
Location: able to reach using gps. In a shared lot with other places. Plenty of parking.
Atmophere: pretty small inside, so recommend making a reservation on their website. They asked of we had one as soon as we walked in. They were able to seat a large group by combining tables.
Food: Fresh made pasta- can't go wrong. Various styles of dishes (spaghetti, lemon caper, rigatoni with rose sauce, lasagna, etc.). They also have various salads, desserts, appetizers, etc. We were given Cheesy bread complementary and it was delicious- soft and tasty. Ordered the rigatoni with rose sauce- good portion and steamy hot with a great flavored sauce. Also got the lemon caper pasta and it was light and tasty. Ordered the lemon torte for dessert- it was okay, wish it had more lemon flavor and less of the breading.
Price: went for dinner and it averaged around $20/entree. Appetizers felt a little pricey so we skipped those. Desserts were $8-12. You can also add a side ceasar salad to your entree for $3.50.
Service: Very friendly. Able to make recommendations. They boxed up our leftovers for us.
Overall, definitely worth the visit if you are looking for a FRESH, affordable eating experience while in Vegas. Great for families, dates,...
Read moreI placed a to go order and my favorite Saffron shrimp sauté sauce was all leaked out of the styrofoam container and suiting outside of the container inside the wrap. Because they wrapped the styrofoam container. No sauce inside of the container leaving pasta completely dry. And I ordered balsamic salad and came home to find out there is no salad dressing!! Are you really kidding me?? Expensive saffron sauce down to drain. I don’t think the chef would be happy about this. Even $8 teriyaki place use plastic container for to go orders. This restaurant charge $30 for a plate and they can’t afford it?? Or just never thought of it?? Good food and careless boxing for takeout orders. message to the owner- It did not spill during transport. I check the order as soon as I got to the car and it was already like that. I had bad experience a few days ago getting food to go from different restaurant drove all the way home and found one of the order was missing so I had to drive back to the restaurant to pick it up. So I was checking to make sure if I got all the orders. Whoever prepared the order wrapped them carelessly. I did not have time to bring them back inside because my family was waiting for my son’s graduation dinner. And if I had you guys make a new ones other orders would have gone bad. It was $ 160 order. 2 of the Saffron pasta was both leaked out. And no salad dressing for salad order! Thank you for your suggestion but I’m not sure if I will return to your...
