Don't Be Salty: Pinkbox Doughnuts was established in 2012 with multiple locations in the Las Vegas area. They are known for their wildly creative doughnuts, witty marketing approach, and crazy interior store features. They are also the official doughnut partner of the Las Vegas Raiders and Golden Knights. The official description of the Don't Be Salty doughnut from Pinkbox is "maple frosted raised shell with a hard white chocolate bottom filled with caramel cheesecake, topped with white whip, drizzled with caramel and sprinkled with sea salt". After taking my first bite, I was initially nonplussed as unlike many salted caramel desserts I've encountered, this was actually relatively salty! If salty isn't your thing, don't get scared off. The salt comes from the drizzle, so it's not in every bite and it is not overpowering. The maple flavoring of the icing is nice but gets somewhat lost with everything else going on (and those other things are phenomenal). The major welcomed distractions to the taste buds are the white chocolate bottom and cheesecake filling, both make this doughnut sui generis. In my opinion the caramel cheesecake filling is perfect, possibly the best filling I've ever had in a doughnut (and I've eaten my share). As for the white chocolate bottom, I've never seen that before and I've been to the revered Donut Bar in San Diego and Five Daughters Bakery in Nashville. This was my favorite doughnut from my Pinkbox visit, although all of them were phenomenal, Doughboy approved! My top doughnut shops: Donut Bar (San Diego) Pinkbox Doughnuts (Las Vegas) Everglazed (Disney Springs) Cranky Al’s (MKE) Krispy Kreme (various locations in different...
Read moreI am a frequent customer and I have been wanting to give a review for some time. Overall a great donut shop but no business is perfect. When their donuts are fresh they are big and decadent. For the price the quality is worth it. The staff has always been friendly and helpful for the most part (a few times some of the staff seemed to roll out on the wrong side of the bed).
But again no business is perfect. One big complaint is the coffee. Your staff needs to make sure it is fresh at all times. I ordered coffee twice from this business and both times it was ice cold and I had to wait for an employee to brew fresh coffee. I stopped getting coffee here and thus you lost some business. Coffee and donuts go hand-in-hand like ketchup and fries so this really is a no brainer: make sure the coffee is fresh!
Second biggest complaint is the fact that your selection at times is very limited. And this can be during what I would consider peak hours for a donut shop (between 5 and 8 AM!). What I mean is that not all of your donuts are available to purchase on the menu at all times. I understand that as a bakery: any product not sold goes to waste. But as a frequent customers I have my favorites that I seek out and it is a frustration to come in and see they are not available (again during peak hours). In the past I would just buy another donut but this has happened enough that I just walk out because I won't finance lazy business practices.
P.S. Also a couple of times I found hairs in my donuts and I noticed that your employees don't really wear hair nets sooooooo..... maybe get them...
Read moreI rarely give subpar reviews, however I'm very fair when it comes to my reviews.
Maybe the doughnuts I ordered were sitting there longer then they should have but they were just not excellent. They were starting to dry up & the flavors are still sitting in my mouth 15 minutes after they were eaten. And not like a good taste. Again, they were not terrible, they just weren't as good as I was expecting them to be.
The place, I'm sorry to say was in a bit of dissaray. It wasn't dirty, just disorganized. It looked like maybe they were putting their catering boxes away or something like that. The staff, there were three people working, only one of which I encountered. She seemed like she could use some coaching on customer service. Not very friendly or even welcoming. Again, not unfriendly just didn't seem interested in my experience (or anyone elses; I sat down & ate the doughnuts there & viewed the interaction). Also, she could brush up on the description of what is inside each donut. Again just a little more care with what she is doing. Everything we do nowadays is an experience.
I would try them again if it was fresh right out of the oven but definitely not going to go out of my way (as I did this evening) to make my way over there for a sweet treat. My analogy is the difference between a Krispy Kreme doughnut immediately coming out of the oven or eating one hours later. Personally I'm not a huge fan of Krispy Kreme however there formula especially when HOT, is spot on.
Sorry Pink Box, I'll try you again, just...
