Second Chances Tavern — Restaurant in Henderson

This was the Mountainside Tavern and Restaurant which was recently acquired and renamed. My wife and I went during their "soft opening". The menu looked nice, and we heard the place was pretty good, so we decided to give it a try for breakfast. Sadly, I was really disappointed.

Service was excellent! I'll give the place at least that much. On top of everything and very friendly. No complaints there.

I ordered a steak and eggs. My wife ordered the chilaquiles. The steak came out cooked as ordered -- medium rare. It was a thinner cut, and getting those thin cuts cooked without overdoing it can be tough. Eggs were good, too. I wish, however, that they would season the steak in some way. It was just a plain cut put onto the grill.

The chilaquiles had only just a little bit of cheese and pretty much zero salsa at all. Portion size was good, but it really just isn't chilaquiles without the salsa and cheese.

But the worst was the OJ I ordered. I took a big gulp, and noticed that it tasted like cleaner. Seriously, like industrial cleaner. I asked my wife to give it a try and let me know if it tasted funny. Her first thought was the same as mine. We flagged down the waitress and let her know. She sniffed the OJ and said, "Oh, yeah. I can definitely smell that!" She apologized profusely, and she took the chilaquiles off the bill which was nice. But I did have a bit of a belly ache for several hours after returning home. Lots of water and milk for the rest of the day.

Sadly, we won't ever be back. It seemed like it could be a nice place, but after that experience, I won't risk it. Hopefully they get things...
