So we were in there on Monday at noon with a party of 20 and believe me I waited tables for 33 years at Red Lobster and I know how hard it is to work a big party all by yourself. And my server was just as sweet as she could be especially under the circumstances but i've never had to wait that long on my food and drinks, anywhere Nor would I have ever made anyone wait that long and we all had just been to a funeral. I do not blame this on my server much because what she had to do was pretty overwhelming she had a party of 20 and it looked like a couple of maybe 6 to 8 tops Going on also. And maybe more I don't know. It's too much she should've had a helper. I mean I know it's Monday and there was probably not a lot of people scheduled but there should be more than one person on a party of 20 it just takes too long to get your drinks, and take the order and put the order in. I don't know if my fried shrimp was leftover or cooked first and got old tasting but I've had fried shrimp at your establishment several times they're always delicious even left over when I got back to Austin but these were chewy and not fresh. Everything else I had was very good my daughters food was good My granddaughters food was good. Anyway I pretty much blame this on management I don't know if they were in the back cooking but before the order was even turned in ,they could've been helping her get drinks and take half the order . It took her forever to bring out one tray of drinks and then she had to go back and get another tray of drinks. My husband never gets irritated And he was so irritated I mean my butt hurt from Sitting so long . We were there for 2 hours . Most of it was waiting on food and drinks. We had to wait on our drinks about 25 minutes then our food for over an hour. Then we all just ate fast and left. And then we had to drive back to Austin. It was pretty miserable. I had no idea it was gonna take this long or we would not have even gone in because we had to drive back to Austin just wanted to get something to eat before we went. My advice to anyone with a large party don't eat here because they don't know how to accommodate...
Read moreI'm not sure why so many locals enjoy this place. For the uninitiated, think "Applebee's" but with a lot more fish selections.
The fajitas were flavorless and cut with the grain, so they were very chewy. The chips and salsa (not included with the meal) had oversalted chips, and the salsa tasted like it came out of a jar. The roast beef sandwich was pretty good, but it's really hard to mess up a slow-roasted chuck roast. Besides, we didn't come for roast beef sandwiches. We came for Mexican inspired fare. Nothing else seemed to tantalize the senses for one of our party, so they went the safe route with a sandwich.
Don't get me started on the gumbo. Being so close to the Louisiana line and a fish restaurant, you'd figure they'd put out a passable pot. The roux was burnt, watery, and very thin on meat. Not to mention that it came out lukewarm. It was seasoned poorly. Overall it tasted like the nearby Sabine river but burnt somehow. Considering that it was still edible and had the essence of a gumbo, as if a real gumbo was made next to it and the flavors wafted themselves over to a pot of burnt river water, I'll give it a 4.2/10.
The service was awful with only 1 refill, which wouldn't have been bad if we hadn't waited an hour for our food. I understand that it was a Sunday afternoon, but the manager needs to plan for that. The place was by no means packed, either.
I'm not even sure why this app is offering me to rate the atmosphere, as it's really subjective, but if you're counting leftover crumbs on your table and chairs as decor, it's not that great. If you've seen Super Troopers and remember the description of the "Shenanigans" restaurant, that pretty much sums...
