We went around noon on a Saturday. Lovely atmosphere. Kind, hard working staff. I wouldn't go there for brunch again, but if you want coffee/beer and conversation with a snack at some point, I'd recommend it. We went for a brunch treat after picking up new glasses in Herndon. My husband and I each ordered coffee, and I ordered a bread basket and cheese plate and my husband ordered a Sicilian slice. Our coffees came out, then his slice. My bread basket was 5-10 min later, then 5-10 min after that my cheese plate came out. I tried to ask about the breads and cheeses, but the guy dropping them off was off in a hurry to refill someone elese's drink and staff were busy running around getting change, ringing up tabs, answering questions, that I never got a chance. The cheeses were all good (one blue, one brie like cheese, one that was likely a goat cheese, and a hard, nutty cheese) but I was disappointed by most of the bread. The bread that came with the cheese plate was very mediocre, flavorless and textureless. 2 of the 3 breads in my bread basket seemed as though they had been sliced much earlier and had been sitting around at least hours, enough to seem slightly stale. One bread seemed very fresh (chewy crust, springy, flavorful inside) and delicious. The pear preserves were really yummy. The black garlic butter was flavorless. My husband ordered a beer that he liked. His Sicilian slice was good- the crust seemed to have a slightly sourdough taste, very yummy. He wished it had more spices (oregano maybe?) in the sauce. (He grew up with Sicilian American food and is very picky about his Sicilian slices. I personally thought it was better than the slices his family buys in his home town). We had to ask to get a food menu, and the bagels (that were advertised on a sign outside) and other breakfast items were no longer available. I can't find the breakfast menu online. My husband nailed it when he said it's a beverage place first, food is secondary. Hence, the recommendation to enjoy if sipping a beverage and sitting/relaxing/chatting is first and a snack is secondary. I wouldn't come here again w brunch on my mind. But I would come here to relax and enjoy the atmosphere, conversation,...
Read moreReally wanted to like this place as it’s a great concept… local brewery tap room, modern pub comfort food: Burgers, pizza, fries, etc in a fun space . Each element on its own was mediocre at best. Put it all together and you want it to work but it’s just blah.
The pizza is average at best. The beer likewise, is nothing to write home about. Very fruit forward and otherwise basic IPAs. It’s no surprise that with all of the fruity beers the sours are the best. I tried to take some home for next week’s Super Bowl but was told they don’t fill growlers? The aesthetic and design is reminiscent of Brussels Beer Company, one of the best local breweries in the capital of beer, but don’t let the aesthetic fool you… The beer doesn’t come anywhere close.
The restaurant itself is open concept with arcade games for kids. It should work, but it doesn’t. It’s first come first serve and not managed at all. This means you have to hover over tables hoping someone gets up and when they do, you pounce leaving other less fortunate souls out of luck. For a place that tries to be family friendly, it’s really chaotic. The arcade area is also not for the faint of heart as it’s pure pandemonium on a Saturday night with kids running amok unsupervised. The dining tables themselves were filthy and service is non-existent. Our food for a table of six came out with two forks. We asked for more but no one ever came back. We then went to the counter to ask for more and they directed us to the self-serve area which was cleaned out. Went back to the bar where I was told that if that was the case there weren’t any more forks available. In the restaurant. At all. So much for enjoying our Brussel sprouts and salad! The water cups in the self serve area looked like a dog had chewed on them and had outlived their life span.
This place should be a slam dunk and gets by being one of the only options of its kind in this area. If you’re looking for pizza, go to a pizza place. If you’re craving a burger, go to a burger place. And if you’re craving a beer, go out to Bluemont. Or, go to Aslin and be...
Read moreAte here twice, but two different items—chicken sandwich and pizza. Both were way too salty. Maybe it goes better with beer, but if you’re not a big beer drinker (they also have cocktails there) then you’ll really notice how salty it is. It was way worse for the sandwich, but it was the same issue both times.
Also, on their toast tab, they show a picture of their cheese pizza with basil. But when my pizza came, it was just a regular cheese—no basil. I went over to ask for the basil and they said “we don’t do that anymore.” When I said “oh, you should change the picture, because had I known, I would have ordered something else.” The man there gave a patronizing response saying “sure… I could do that,” with a condescending look on his face. They didn’t sympathize or anything. He made me feel embarrassed and kind of hurt my feelings. I thought I’d been pretty nice about it. I didn’t ask for any refund or a new order. I did go back to check and the description did not have basil on it. But to me, if they can update the description, why not the picture?
Overall atmosphere is nice, and they host fun events like trivia. I just can’t give higher stars because the food is not great and when there was a minor issue, the service was not nice. Money is tough for a lot of people right now. When you go out, you want to eat decent food and not feel...
