Just called them the other week during business hours, and ended up on their answering machine twice, which is fine as they were probably busy. So I left a very detailed message, with all my contact information, due to a large order of yeast I wanted to make. I have never heard back from them. That's a sad business attitude in my eyes.
Also - I just bought baked goods to try, and was highly disappointed. As a European, I like my bread baked to perfection, with a crunchy outside. All of the baked goods and breads, from this bakery, were gooey and under baked in the inside. Nothing crispy on the outside at all. Nothing great at all. I am a mediocre baker and think I even make better breads.
The people who love their products, are most likely, not into artisan breads.
What I don't like in this town is that no one is allowed to state their honest opinion about businesses. Great Harvest seems to have done some community support, and therefore lots of people are super crazy about not saying anything negative about them.

Read moreI'm new to the area and dropped by after eating lunch at a nearby restaurant thinking I'd pick up a nice rustic sourdough loaf for the week. My first impression was poor. I was the only prospective customer in the store and there were 3-4 staff present; nobody welcomed me in or offered assistance. The layout isn't great, with customers relegated to this narrow L-shaped area around the counter. I didn't see many loaves for sale - mainly cakes, cookies and other treats. I picked up a bag of biscotti (butterscotch IIRC) and was disappointed to see they use yellow number 5 coloring and other artificial ingredients. Not sure what the point is in buying local if you get served the same junk that the big industrial bakers pump their stuff full of! I ended up leaving without buying anything. Nobody said a word to...
Read moreCute shop, but the staff were definitely not the nicest, and did not like the fact that I was asking questions about their bread. I was given mean looks, and there was a vibe of "ugh". Although, they were nice to my toddler.
I was asking if the flour was bleached, and they did not seem pleased by the question. However, they did tell me its regular all-purpose flour, so I'm questioning if they actually mill it themselves daily. I did not feel invited to ask more questions.
I bought one sourdough loaf, a pack of five large double chocolate chip cookies, and a pack of shortbread. Before tip, it was about $40. Prices are not listed on the items.
The sourdough was tough and chewy. There wasn't a food label for the...
